While watching Michael win his eight gold medal and my US girls landing #1 and #2 in gymnastics, I discovered something new as I was fast forwarding through hours of recorded Olympic footage.
I’m going to go ahead and add this to my list of favorite summer Olympic sports. It’s going to be right up there with gymnastics, swimming, diving, synchronized diving, synchronized swimming, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, handball and pole vaulting.
Who knew this was an Olympic event?
I could have totally taken the gold 12 years ago. Or eaten trampoline mat. Either way…fun would be in the mix somewhere.

No way!! That is so AWESOME!! Granted, I can’t do anything more than jump up and land on my bottom, but that would be an awesome thing to get a medal for! You’d be able to tell your other adult friends that you’re a world champion at being a kid at heart!
PS - Did you see Dara Torres? My heart went out to her! And her little girl is SO CUTE!
SO. VERY. AWESOME. It looks like slow motion!
We said the same thing! We were fascinated! (And I learned that my hubby has NEVER had the pleasure of jumping on a trampoline.) I must find one now…he could have an Olympic career and not know it!!
Why isn’t this better advertised? When are the finals? This is awesome!! I totally could have done this too (a long long time ago–before my joints aged so rapidly. ha!).
Oh, I totally agree! I was lovin’ on this big time. It is a beautiful combination of power tumbling and diving but bouncier and not into water. Did you notice how HIGH they jumped?! I would have gotten vertigo. anyhow, totally with you–as always
I was also glad to find this competition this weekend. I couldn’t believe that I had never seen it before. I am pretty confident that I too could compete for the Gold in this event.
I feel that I am watching more of this Summer Olympics than any of the previous years. I always watch the Winter more but I couldn’t help but watch for Dara, the gymnast and especially Michael Phelps! With nothing else on to watch I even caught up on the rowing and Equestrian races.
Love it! Finals are on tonight at 9pm.
Ok, trampoline is considered a sport, but they are taking baseball and softball out for 2012? What’s wrong with that picture. Trampoline was great as I watched it in fast forward. Remember the sing-a-longs with the bouncing ball. Very reminiscent of that. I was always afraid to bounce that high.
Thank you so much for posting this! My nephew is obsessed with jumping on his trampoline, and just this weekend we were saying “if only the trampoline was an olympic sport!” and now I know that it is! I just looked it up on the schedule and it looks like the women’s finals are today and the men’s finals are on Tuesday. Hopefully they’ll air some of it on tv. Fun!!
I was TOTALLY thinking the same thing! Who knew that you could medal in trampoline?!
BTW, you are a friend of one of my friends on Facebook. (And I am now officially a nerd. :-)) I started screeching to my husband saying, “Look, look, it’s Lincee!” and he thought I had lost my mind. And now I can’t believe I just shared that little gem with all of your readers.
I too was suprised to see this is an Olympic sport. Is this one of those trial sports? Anyway, when I found this on television I was nursing a headache, and believe me, you DO NOT want to watch Olypmic trampolining with a pounding headache!
This makes me want to play Wii! Mario and Sonic at the Olympics-Lincee, you would love it!
Dismount…I want a fancy dismount!!!
And what is up with that weird-sounding cheering?
I actually think the trampoline thing is cool. It is fun to do and to watch! But there are so many “sports” that are in the Olympics that baffle me. They are taking out baseball and softball as an Olympic sport but leaving in table tennis and badminton? WTF?? Yes, I know it takes talent to play both of them, but so it also takes talent for both b-balls too! I’m a huge soccer fan, so don’t think I am just a crazed baseball fan, I’m not. But it is a great sport and should be kept. They are only taking it out because the US dominates this sport every single Olympics.
Has anyone else noticed how in this Olympics China is dominating all the sports that are “judgment call” type sports but the US is dominating all the sports that are finite? Rowing, track & field races….who crosses the finish line first is the winner…no “judging” to that. Baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis….who has the most points wins…no judging to that. I could go on and on. I know the US didn’t win the gold in all of those, but what I am saying is that the sports that are obvious win or lose, the Americans are dominating. The sports that are judgment calls like gymnastics, dance, diving, etc….the Chinese are winning. And what I find fascinating about it is this: No judge from a competitor’s country can judge that event. So it is judges from all over the world awarding medals to the Chinese in the “judgmental” sports. I find that interesting…but I guess that is the way it is in whatever country is hosting. The US did very well in the ‘96 Olympics in the judgmental sports and they were held in Atlanta….anyway, just some food for thought since we are discussing the Olympics…
Three cheers for Trampoline. Canda won a silver
I’m so proud.
I couldn’t find any coverage though.
A lot of sports use the tramp as a training tool to practice arial tricks (i.e. Gymnastics, Ski jumping and diving). Whoo hoo for one of the lesser known artistic sports at the games.
Did everyone get to see Matt and Al do rhythmic gymnastics this morning on the Today Show.
Ha-larious!!!!
Heres the website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SYSMQcwlJw
trampoline is not a sport (say it like the FRIENDS episode, JOEY DOESN’T SHARE FOOD)- it’s a back yard passtime.
I found it interesting that NBC shows the trampoline competition trials, but I have to flip on over (or record) to the O! channel for the synchronized swimming prelims. Then I have change channels to MSNBC for table tennis (ping pong). I love the obscure sports. I guess everything has a focused audience.
I’m so scared that Michael Phelps will emerge from this with his own reality show (though, of course, wouldn’t it be fun if he were the new Bachelor?).
Jason…the Bachelor. Thoughts?
In response to DJ… Please let them find women that actually want to take on Jason, and Ty. I really son’t think I could watch an entire season of him trying to find the right 20 year old who is ready to step into, and instant family situation.
Sorry about the typo. I meant “don’t”.
Oh puhleeeeze! Most of the sports Lincee listed should N E V E R be an Olympic sport . . . . . EVAH!!
How many people do you know who play (competitive) handball!?????! @@
As far as badminton and ping pong (sorry, it is not table tennis, that makes it sound like they’re trying to class it up @@) at least most average people know what they are and have more than likely played it.

NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!
Did everyone see that Jason is going to be the new bachelor.

I don’t think I will be able to watch this season at all. This guy really drives me crazy. He was such a puppy dog following DD around. He has such a fake smile on his face all the time. I don’t know if he has enough backbone to be the bachelor.
I know there are tons of people out there that will disagree but I just can’t stand this guy. I think a much better pick would have been Beefcake Brian, Sexy Jeremy, Hotty Graham or even weirdo Twilly, now THAT would have been a show to watch.
Wow….I really thought Jason would have enough women throwing themselves at him that he wouldn’t have to go through this again….Beefcake or Jeremy would have been better picks for this show. But I like Jason. I hope he finds someone with as big a heart as he has and who is ready to step right into to step-mom mode. Maybe someone who has a child of her own? The brady bunch-primetime!
This guy has some really awesome moves! The athleticism is amazing! Have you seen David Elsewhere and his awesome moves? Check out the moves he does for the Motorokr vids.
Lincee, did you see that the Lopez family is from Sugarland? Isn’t that near where you live? They all won medals in Taekwondo!!
We would totally come and cheer you on in London, Lincee! Go for the gold!
