Jason Mesnick Becomes New Bachelor

With Lincee in Colorado playing in the mountains, and considering a relocation there (according to her Tweet), I will be playing DH, for this announcement.

ABC has announced that Jason Mesnick — who proposed to DeAnna Pappas on last season’s Bachelorette, only to be rejected — will become the new Bachelor.

Rumor has it his son, Ty, will be picking the winner for this upcoming show.  Actually, I just made that up for this post.  I am shifty like that.   Talk amongst yourselves until Lincee returns.

    NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  2. Kristy Said,

Hmm. Interesting. Not sure how I feel about that.

  3. LG Said,

Jason’s a good pick, but I’m not keen on using the kid in the show. How many of us were hopeful that Jeremy would get picked so we could stand in line for a shot at him? I know at least 5! :)

  4. Jenny Said,

I’m really not very happy about this. I’m sure that Jason is a nice guy and all…but he annoyed me with his neediness and puppy dog expressions. Is he going to be jumping up and down when they get out of the limos? Gag. I am seriously considering skipping this season :-(

  5. Lorraine Said,

I can’t wait to see how many of them bring a golf ball for the little guy to play with. (Remember, D’s little gift) I hope ABC does the right thing, and keep him out of the picture until her narrows it down to the hometown visits. I don’t think Ty needs to be meeting all of those crazy women….

  6. Betsy Said,

I think Jason is actually in a mindset to get married…unlike a lot of the men who go on this show to get famous so they can get lots of women. So, there’s that.

I hope he doesn’t involve his kid too much…if at all. Keep the kid away from the ka-razies!

Webman, thanks for being on top of this.

I always say I am not going to watch this show…but i always do.

  7. addy Said,

Hmmm…. I really loved Jason on the show, and this isn’t too surprising. But, I do think it’s a little strange - bringing a kid into a process like this is kinda shady? I think Jason is an awesome enough dad to keep Ty sort of removed from it, though. I will DEFINITELY be watching! I think it’ll be nice to have a Bachelor who we know isn’t a total douchebag!

  8. addy Said,

P.S. I totally forgot about his neediness. Oh boy. That’ll make for some snark.

  9. beens Said,

I can’t wait! I just hope he finds a good person.

  10. MC Said,

mixed emotions. he’s a doll and i thought he was so sincere. but i just don’t know. i can’t help wondering if he weren’t a dad, would we all heart him as much?

i’ll definitely tune in. if there are sincere girls, i could see it working out for him.

  11. RE Said,

Dang it! I was REALLY hoping it would be Chicahgo Fred. He was great.

  12. julie Said,

This will take him away from Ty, and whether or not Ty is even affected by it, it just makes him look bad. Maybe we’ll find out more about the mom – MAYBE they should have the mom be a “mole” in the contestants & get the inside scoop on who’d be a good/bad stepmom for Ty. Everyone is crazy on this show - let’s not bring a toddler into it.

  13. Karen S Said,

So does this mean that the bachelorettes that will be introduced to him might have kids too? I wanted them to pick Jeremy too. Darn.

  14. BC Said,

Lincee, you’ll love Colorado…. although it’s always hard to leave your family and friends, there are wonderful friendly people here and lots of dedicated readers. Webman, what happened to the box on the right side where you could click on the recent comments, instead of scrolling down?
Jason - ok, I can see it. A toddler involved? Not so much…..

  15. Lindsay Said,

I personally am much happier with Jason than I would have been with Jeremy. Jason is needy, but I’d rather hear about a 3 year old for the whole season than Jeremy’s mom. And knowing them, ABC would have been evil enough to put at least 5 girls on the show whose moms had also died. Then we’d really never hear the end of it. I’m not trying to be insensitive, I just don’t want to be depressed either.
Jason should be a good bachelor, and I hope he finds a good girl!

  16. houstonlawyer Said,

Let’s see now, Brad dumped Deanna, Deanna dumped Jason, Jason is friends with Bevin, Bevin was dumped by Andy Baldwin. Is this The Bachelor or The Hills? Anyway, I do think that Jason is decent guy and I wish him all the best on the show. I just hope the show doesn’t get too fixated on the child thing, with all the women talking about how much they love kids, etc. I wonder if ABC load up with kindergarten teachers? Come to think of it, that teacher from Nashville who won the Travis Stork season might just be perfect for Jason…..

  17. Brooke Said,

Jason was sweet but a tad over the top…not sure that I like ABC picking people that have already been on the show. Let someone else have a chance. Also, I am not sure how much I can take of watching the horrible scene of Jason proposing to D. If this season was any indication, we will see it every week!!! I might have to skip the first 10 minutes of each show.

  18. Cheekymonkey Said,

Well, I adored Jason on the bachelorette and I really wish him the best of luck… I’m kind of excited to see how they twist this to appeal to the masses out there that are TICKED that he’d opt to take 6 more weeks away from his son.. I mean, it’s not like the kid is going to be ON the show, interviewing the ladies… at least, I hope not!!! We’ll see, should open some doors for those single moms that are thinking about going for it, right?

  19. Carolyn Said,

Wait a second. Brad rejects Deahhna, D gets the gig, D rejects Jason, Jason gets the gig? How boring! We already got to know Jason. I would like some new eye candy, please. ABC’s lack of creativity may be their downfall for this show. But I’ll keep watching. All for you, Lincee! :)

  20. webMAN Said,

#12 Julie - Love “The Mole” remark. Just got into that show this last season.

#14 BC - I added the recent comments widget on the right side again. You will note you can also subscribe to RSS comments now as well.

  21. Redshc Said,

I hate this idea!! Why can’t they be a little original and not use the rejects anymore! This is very upsetting! I have been a super loyal Bashelor fan for year (minus the Chris O’donnel brother season, that was just too much of a joke!) but i think this is another one where i am going to have to put my foot down and not watch! Very upset, very upset!!!

  22. JennJam Said,

MICHAEL PHELPS for The Bachelor after London 2012!

    He’ll be 27. I’ll be watching!!!!!!!!!! :-)

  23. kathy Said,

Ick. Watching him jump and down over DD with Zero Personality was bad enough. This will be unwatchable.

    However….maybe they can create baby-mama-drama.

  24. GA girl Said,

I’m tired of re-using people from other seasons. And there is just something about Jason I don’t like. I may not watch this season. Ok….I probably will. But i won’t like it!!

  25. Dani Said,

I can’t take it anymore. With Jason being chosen as the new Bachelor, I’m going to stop watching the show and just read Lincee’s blog. It’s more entertaining and it spares me an hour of watching Jason creep out.

  26. TJ Said,

They will need to bring in a higher class of women than they normally do, to match up with Jason.

  27. Stef Said,

If they are going to recycle, I personally would have preferred Jeremy. I do heart Jason but I agree with everyone that they need to stop using the “rejects” and start fresh each season. I hope that as ABC does this, they keep Ty in mind. Maybe tape in Washington so when Jason’s not filming he can be with Ty. Also, I really hope that they don’t expose Ty to any of the girls (maybe the final 2, but a 3 year old doesn’t need to be involved). I too, hope that they do not show the scene of him proposing, at the begining of every week. That just gets old. You may not be aware of this, but HTC Brad rejected DeAnna that the home depot pedestal (apparently he also lead her on). Oh yeah, of course you know that, because that’s ALL you heard/saw last season. :) I do wish Jason the best and of course I’ll watch, it’s one of my guilty pleasures. Can’t wait for Lincee’s blogs.

  28. houstonlawyer Said,

Isn’t Jason the first time they’ve recycled a bachelor? Okay, maybe Bob Guinny (sp?) was recycled. But they have a 2 out of 4 success rate for recycled bachlorettes (perhaps 3 out of 5 if you count Mary and the fisherman), so maybe Jason will be the first bachelor success story.

  29. Maki Said,

Oh nooooo, more leapfrog and maybe some ‘ring around the rosie’ this time?

  30. Fit Bottomed Girls Said,

For real? I think #1 said it right, “NOOO!”

But what’s it matter to me? I only watch The Bachelorette. Reading the recap is better than the real thing for The Bachelor anyway.

  31. LA Said,

I have to agree with some above comments - I’m a little sick of the repeat people on the bach/ette. We need some new folks to observe and discuss!

  32. KMS Said,

I’m punching out. Is this The Bachelor or Who wants to Marry My Dad? He was too needy with zero personality, and over-the-top “I’m an involved dad” vibe. NO three year old gets that psyched for a golf ball, especially if he’s been involved in the game. I’m sure he’s got a Lit’l Tikes set at home. There is no reason to watch other than Lincee’s blog!

  33. Claiborne Said,

I agree with #28. ABC has to pick people that have at least a CHANCE of getting married to the person they propose to. The Matt Grant- Shayne Lamas thing was just embarrassing. I loved that season but think the recent happenings are just tacky. Jason may not be the most dynamic of all the guys but there hasn’t been a single success story for any bachelor. It’s time.

  34. luvthebatch Said,

I seriously hope this is a joke! I really did NOT like Jason. He totally bugged. Don’t think I can watch. I mean come on, did no one nominate a bachelor that ABC liked? Why do we keep using the rejects?

  35. Catharine Said,

I agree #33. I think we might FINALLY see a Bachelor get married to his pick — it definitely is time. I am glad to see Jason as the Bachelor, even if he was a little too over the top. Lincee, can you tell Chris Harrison to only rehash Jason being “dumped” by DeAnna one time at the beginning? I mean, I know it has to be said at least once, but it really was ridiculous how much HTC Brad was mentioned in every episode of the Bachelorette. That was the most annoying thing of the season to me. Best thing about the season? Lincee, of course!

  36. Kerry Said,

I was a little confused at first but then I realized what you were talking about! So he’s leaving his boy AGAIN?

  37. Kerry Said,

new to your blog by the way - love the name!

  38. Some Guy Said,

Turn the page, ABC. I liked Jason, but picking the reject as the next bachelor has become a little cliche. I still root for some of the “mashups” (see how I got all 2.0 on you) that we kicked around in previous posts.

  39. Joy Said,

I’m just hoping that they pick some women with depth… thats its not just about looks. I think Jason & Ty deserve someone real. I think that makes good TV too! (Hear that ABC???) I won’t be happy if its a bunch of bimbos. But you know I will still watch! haha!

  40. houston mamacita Said,

ty needs to be there so that he’s not separated from his dad AGAIN, but i agree with stef that he shouldn’t be involved with the girls until the very end … otherwise they will need to employ an ABC psychotherapist just for him.

girl #1 out of the limo: “hi, ty … i’m going to be your new mommy!”

    repeat 24 times.

    yuck.

  41. Leslie From Austin Said,

    No, No, No, No, No!!!

  42. Laura Said,

I guess if I had to choose between hearing about deceased parents vs. child I would pick child, but I really wish they would have just picked someone new (or someone hotter than crap…or both)

Seems like ABC is trying to legitimize the show by picking someone who will be more likely to actually get married and I’m not sure that is really going to help the ratings at all because a lot of the fun of it is taking bets on how long it will take the couples to split and the drama when they actually do!

  43. ashley Said,

NOOOOO! Say it ain’t SOOOO! He bugs. I mean I want him to find true love and all but don’t want to watch him do it. I do agree with a previous poster. I would much rather hear about a child than dead parents all the time.

Don’t knock him for leaving his son again. Only he knows what is best for his child and what he can handle. I am sure he is doing this to hopefully give them a better life. It is not our place to judge unless we have been in his shoes.

  44. Sue Said,

I still like my idea of having the different women baby-sit Ty while Jason goes out on dates.

  45. E Said,

Sign me up to be one of the Bachelorettes!! I would TOTALLY marry him!! He’s a hottie!

  46. Linda Said,

Maybe they’ll have some single mommies too and they can go on group dates with Ty and his new stepsiblings…but that complicates the fantasy suite part…

  47. JJ Said,

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
How disappointing - I thought I was done having to listen to and see Jason. He’s so boring, and, I can’t believe he’s leaving Ty again. That I don’t get. Aren’t there any decent women in his hometown, what was the name of if…….it’s coming to me, LeapFrog capital of the world…………..Seattle - that he can date normally and not have to leave his young son for weeks????? Great priorities Dad. Not sure I can stomach an entire season of Jason.

  48. Shopgirl Said,

Clearly, I’m in the minority on this site, but I’m glad they picked Jason! He’s attractive and appears to be a personable, funny, warm and caring man. You know, –like the type that make really good husbands!!! (Jeremy was the one that gave me the creeps last time…)

And with Jason as the Bachelor, (assuming they will film in LA) there is no reason that Ty can’t go with him and stay with a sitter or nanny while Daddy is filming, so please don’t automatically assume he is “leaving” his son to do the show.

I hope he really finds true love!

  49. Randee Said,

If I didn’t have a kidlet of my own, I would sooooooooo be trying out…what are the chances they would film in the twin cities with Ty and aunt at a lovely home in Edina so Jason and Ty aren’t separated…hmmmmmmmm.

  50. hannah Said,

i agree with JennJam - Michael Phelps! :)

  51. Laurie Said,

Sweet and smart is just not enough for Jason. He has a dopey factor that unsexes him. Plus, Ty did seem a little pawn-ish, and (I realize this is a totally anal mother observation, but) he didn’t have his kid’s seatbelt fastened properly on the carseat shot, which renders the thing useless.

Oh, who am I kidding. I’m gonna watch anyway.

  52. CeeCee Said,

(Eye roll) Ugh! I admit that I usually don’t watch the Bachelor anyway - it kind of sickens me to see all those women throwing themselves at a guy (NOT that I mind it at all when it’s the guys doing that for one girl! LOL). However, after all of Jason’s whining about leaving his son - he’s gonna do it AGAIN?? Um…okaaaayyyy - whatever. Sure shows HIS priorities in a clearer light though. ITA - I would have much preferred to watch Jeremy all over again - mmmmm those abs LOL! (Of course the MUTE button might have had to be used for some of those sob fests). Jason is just too… desperate IMHO. Nice guy - just too needy!

Oh -and Laurie (#51)- I TOTALLY caught that car seat thing! OMG I was jumping off the sofa when I saw THAT move! Great dad! More worried about impressing DeAnna than having his son’s safety belt secured properly!

  53. The Original C$ Said,

What have we had? Entrepreneurs, doctors, athletes, actors, bass fishermen, a prince in the most tenuous sense of the word, and now two of the rejected in some capacity? Jason’s a nice guy by all appearances and the level of douche-baggery should be near an all-time low so I guess that’s progress. So, what new territory can we tread? How about a jockey as the next bachelor? Or a politician? Now that could be a fun BS-fest for sure. Or lets go completely wheels off and get Screech or Corey Haim. Who’s with me?!

  54. Claiborne Said,

Cut the guy some slack. I am sure he knows what he is doing. I will be VERY surprised if Ty doesn’t come with him, but I doubt he will be on the show (much). My guess is that Jason is ready to be married and it obviously hasn’t happened the good ole fashioned way. It’s a once in a lifetime chance. Ty isn’t school-aged so doesn’t have to be in Seattle. ABC will probably spring for nannies. Don’t assume the worse.
Of course, I could be proven wrong and we would have another season of Jason whining about missing Ty. We’ll see . . .

  55. Shawn Said,

Can’t the guy stay away from Hollywood and find love on his own…if he loves his son so much, why put him through this?

  56. Laurel Said,

    #53 - I love this - my new favorite word “douche-baggery”.

  57. Briget Said,

    Michael Phelps?! Really?! Ewwwww!

He is undeniably an amazing athlete and may have surpassed Mark Spitz in the medal category, but he will never, ever, ever be as hot as Spitz. Ever. Never ever.

  58. Tara Said,

#57 Briget - I’m with you on that one! :)

  59. Joy Said,

I wonder if they will repeatedly diss Deanna in their intro each week like they did to Brad? Or are they just so happy Deanna found her true love that they will conveniently forget that she let Jason get down on one knee and start proposing before she stopped him. I mean, they threw Brad under a bus week in and week out. Do you think they’ll do the same with D as Jason searches for his true love? I can’t wait to see how they let that all play out.

  60. Tiffany Said,

Jason isn’t from the twin cities - he’s from Seattle and there is no way they are filming it there. Especially in the fall and winter time as it’s way too rainy there…

  61. Better Than Jeremy! Said,

I’m okay with Jason being the next bachelor. Just thank god it wasn’t Jeremy!! That dude? Creeped me out.

There was an interview with Jason after The Bachelorette aired where he said if he did do The Bachelor, Ty would could come with him so he wouldn’t be separated from him. I’m sure this will happen (and hopefully Ty would not be heavily involved in the show) so everyone needs to please calm down about Jason “abandoning” his son for 6 more weeks.

I think that out of all the bachelors EVER, Jason is one who could go into it sincerely wanting to get married, not just hooking up with a bunch of blond bimbos and then parlaying his appearance into some post-show fame whoring. I think he actually wants to get married, which could be a refreshing and interesting change for the show. No matter how much ABC tried to convince us those other bachelors wanted to get married (like Jesse the football player?? Andy the Navy dude? Bob Guiney? Yeah right!) I didn’t believe it, but I believe it for Jason.

Now we can only hope ABC will indeed get some quality ladies. Yes, single moms would be AWESOME. Have they ever had a single mom as a contestant on the show before? It seems like just having a (gasp) divorced girl on the show was cause to burn her at the stake. So this could be a great opportunity to bring in some single moms to be on the show. When else will these ladies get a chance with puritan, “divorce is a bad word but faaaaantasy suite is music to our ears” ABC.

If ABC mines its usual sources — retired pageant circuit morons, cheerleaders, bartenders and pharmaceutical company reps — Jason is screwed. At that point, he SHOULD just down the champagne and take advantage of the bitches.

  62. linceefan Said,

#59 - as much as I don’t want to see the replays of Jason on one knee for DD, it would only be fair to her if she had to endure seeing herself in a less-than-flattering moment in her life - just like they made Brad do.

  63. Better Than Jeremy! Said,

#62 Yes, but ABC has been out to make Brad look like an evil jerk since the end of his season. DD has always been ABC’s darling (and I’m sure it doesn’t have anything to do with her being so willing to shill for them and the show’s ability to help people find true love, lol). They will likely show Jason’s rejection several times, but more to highlight his sweet little broken single-dad heart, and not to make DD look like a bitch. Part of the reason also is that after her rejection, she bitched and moaned up a STORM about how Brad was so evil to her. Jason hasn’t gone around doing that to DD and so there is even less of a reason for ABC to milk it and make her look bad. Besides, they NEED to make DD look good because she is still actually with her chosen guy from the show. That is a rare thing and ABC needs to hold on to it as long as they can. :)

  64. Angela Said,

I don’t know about you all, but when I hear the name “Jason”, all that springs to mind is “wierd nose.”

  65. VickiG Said,

Eh … ho hum on this one. Let’s just hope he learned to tone down his desperation a few notches.

  66. Chickpea Said,

Ok #57 & #58, I must voice disagreement. Mark Spitz is (or was, dislike the non-moustached version) good looking, in a GQish way… but not at all my type. OTOH Michael Phelps is super hot and has a smile than makes me go weak in the knees. TOTALLY my type. Sigh.

Each to her own. (Which is a good thing anyway, as we’d all be going after the same guys, and that’d be less than no fun!)
