I know…I know…

I know I’ve promised a hurricane update for weeks now. It just seems like I still don’t have my feet back under me from Ike’s vicious sweep of the legs.

It was tough. And there are people here who STILL don’t have electricity. Not to mention the devastation in Galveston.

But there’s one thing I would like to report before giving my full description of Ike:

The apartment cat is okay. He’s alive and well actually.

I have to admit that when I made the trip home to survey the damage, I was sort of nervous that no one thought to take the apartment cat inside during the storm. I didn’t see him anywhere. And you know he smells my dislike. That’s usually when he chooses to rub up against my legs so that tripping over him or a sever rash is inevitable.

But for days he was a no show.

Then on Wednesday night, I heard the familiar scream of horror that those of us living in my complex have learned to tune out. He was scrapping with the neighbor’s cat. Oh happy day! He survived the storm!

The next morning, I open the door, check my stoop for “presents” and left my apartment for work. The cat is catching an early morning nap beside the stairs. Feeling a bit sentimental, I take my foot and rub three times on his belly. Only three.

That’s when home boy decides to grab my leg with his filthy cat claws and hang on for dear life while I flail my leg about to try and get him to let go. As I swing him round and round with all my might, I can feel scratches on one side and a single claw digging deeper on the other.

There was blood people. And a semi infection that’s not too bad, but STILL AN INFECTION.

This is why cats are evil. Never again my feline friend. Never again.

Hmmm. I guess ABC has passed on airing the nuptuals.

As seen on People’s website this morning:

DEANNA AND JESSE SCALING DOWN THEIR WEDDING

When it comes to weddings, The Bachelorette’s happily engaged couple DeAnna Pappas and Jesse Csincsak are thinking small.

“We’ve gone from about 400 people, and we’re breaking it down,” DeAnna Pappas told PEOPLE at Saturday’s L.A. Confidential pre-Emmy party in Hollywood. “I think we want to enjoy ourselves and our day versus having to talk to a bunch of people all day long. So, we’re dwindling it down.”

With a wedding date set for May 9, 2009, the couple says they are at square one with planning. “I don’t know how people plan a wedding,” Pappas, 26, said. “I know what color I want my dresses to be, and bridesmaids’ dresses. He wants a cheesecake. And that’s about as far as we’ve gotten.”

“Our relationship obviously is our main focus, and then as well as the wedding on top of that,” Csincsak, 26, told PEOPLE. “It’s not this huge thing everyday. We’re both so busy all the time. We don’t have time right now to plan a wedding, and we’re planning a wedding, which is crazy.”

As for Bachelor stars on the wedding invitee list, you can count ex-Bachelorette Trista Rehn and host Chris Harrison among them.

“I’m friends with a lot of the guys from the same season I was on, Jason being one of them,” said Csincsak, who led his fiancée around Saturday’s party by the hand. “[Chris] Harrison is a great guy. Trista and Ryan [Sutter] have been super-influential to us. We’re psyched to have all of them there.” –Nicholas White

Electricity is awesome

Ike is still reeking havoc on our dear city. I just got power back on Friday and had EVERY intention of writing an entertaining story on my hurricane adventure. But instead, I flipped on light switches all weekend. BECAUSE I COULD! And I blended things. BECAUSE I COULD! And I used a blow dryer and Chi on my hair. BECAUSE I COULD!

I’ve rediscovered the awesomeness of my iPod, DVR and ice maker, and have given my extra cans of Vienna Sausages to the Houston Food Bank.

Now that I’m sort of back on track, I’ll work on a post to update you on life. So much to talk about. So little time.
