I’ve decided to start a new category that will further be known as “How Have We Not Talked About This?”
As you all know, I have a real job and it sometimes gets in the way of me sharing my rambling and opinions about nothing as much as I would like. Not that I’m complaining…several of my best posts are direct results of things I experience while on the job. See here, here and here.
With that said, days…weeks…even months may go by and one day I realize that we’ve never discussed something or someone in pop culture that was newsworthy enough to stop me in my tracks and take notice.
Case in point?
Glee.
How have we not talked about this?
I must have been in their perfect demographic range or something, because I was intrigued the minute FOX started pimping out this new show about Glee Club during American Idol commercial breaks. In fact, I was so much the perfect demo, that I stopped my DVR in the middle of fast forwarding because I spotted something that looked to be musical theater.
Oh how I love musical theater. Although Hallsville High School did not have a Glee Club, the theater department did perform musicals each fall. I’ll have you know that you are currently reading the words of Cha Cha Digregorio…the best dancer at St. Bernadette’s. I’m just saying.
Since I was watching the season finale of American Idol live, I was delighted to find out that Glee debuted immediately following.
It’s your typical high school storyline: Teacher was Glee back in the day and wants to resurrect it. Drama queen, diva girl, weird girl, nerd and gay guy are the only ones that sign-up. Teacher hears football star singing in the shower after practice one day and tricks him into signing up. (Of course, it turns out he begins to secretly loves Glee and wonders how this will go over with his buddies on the team.)
I have to admit, it was a slow start for me. But I stuck with it. And this was the pièce de résistance.
Don’t stop believing in this show people.
I loved it too! Not only is the singing great, but it’s hilarious! It starts back up in the fall, I think.
Lincee, your Ukraine post is STILL one of my favorites of all-time!
I LOVED IT! My kids and I have been singing that song for weeks. Thanks for the clip!
As a cheese-ball participant and director of every Greek musical event at OSU…this show makes me smile. Takes me back to “Freshman Follies” and “Spring Sing”. Thank you Fox for giving me something entertaining to watch! And thank you Lincee for sharing that clip.
BTW – LOVE the teacher. I think he’s a doll!
I know!! I loved it, and was SO disappointed that it wasn’t going to be on until the fall. I was really psyched that we might have some good summertime programming until they pulled the rug out from my feet! Oh well, this is definitely one I’m adding to the roster.
I loved it as well! (even went and bought the glee performance of Don’t Stop Believing on iTunes)
I totally agree! I would watch the previews every time I saw them (usually during AI fast forwards). Can’t wait to see what the fall will bring with this show; I really hope its good! Lincee – thanks for sharing the clip. Love it!
I’m so glad to hear that other folks loved it! I actually saved it on my DVR and am not embarrassed to say that I’ve watched them perform that Journey song a few times now. I hope everyone keeps watching in the fall. We don’t get enough good shows like this.
(and the use of that Amy Winehouse song was brilliant)
I love this show and can’t wait until fall!
i’m in love with this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!
!!!!!
keep posting videos, lincee!
just got a chance to watch it on wednesday and LOVED it. can not wait for fall!!!
I watched the first episode on Hulu and am in love already! I really hope the show makes it! And I LOVE the video, and I’m already hoping for a little romance between Rachel and Finn.
(Also, strangely enough, I too played ChaCha! But in like 5th grade, so the character was DRASTICALLY different!)
I was wondering why you hadn’t mentioned Glee. I loved it, too! I started rockin’ to Journey again! Can’t wait to see another episode in the fall.
I love love love this show…they hooked me by singing Journey!!!
Ever heard of High School Musical?
Love, love, love it!!
I’m so glad you brought this up Lincee. I too would stop to watch all teaser clips for Glee and went on and on about how excited I was for it to start to my husband. I programmed my DVR and counted down the days. Only to find Fox was only playing the one episode. WHAT?!?! I thought when they said it was a “sneak peek” that it was going to start in June or something not that I had to wait all summer long! It’s cruel, really. But genius at the same time because now I tell all my friends who love musicals all about it and send them to Fox.com to watch it. Why did no one ever think about making a TV show into a musical before?? Brilliant! Can’t wait for the fall!
17…i agree…i was so bummed when I learned how long we would have to wait for the next one…smart move network…and for the record…Lincee was the best ChaCha…i’m sure you all aren’t surprised!
ok i’m pretty sure that after i first saw the video this afternoon i’ve played it no less than 15x. ALMOST consecutively—and get this….. i don’t like musicals.
I seem to recall several years ago one of the networks had a ‘musical’ high school. . . I think it was called “Hull High” or something like that, but it got canceled during it’s first season–BUMMER!
I’m looking forward to ‘Glee’. . . too bad we only have the Pilot to entertain us thru the summer. . .
Oh, and Lincee, unfortunately I got stuck in the Pit Orchestra for ‘Grease’, so I can’t claim the ChaCha sisterhood with you!
One more thought. I LOVED the background music in this show. I love how they used the keyboard “ahhs” playing every genre of music. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, listen for it next time you watch it. It just adds to the fun of the whole thing.
wow. zac efron really hit a growth spurt after graduation.
ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO!!!!
How have we not talked about this is right! As someone who is obsessed to TV, I’m going out on a limb and saying that Glee may make it into my top 5! I laughed out loud on several occasions during the pilot! When the cheerleading coach yells through her bull horn as the cheerleaders are complaing about how hard the pyramid is and she says “You think cheerleading is hard? Try living with Hepatitis – THAT’S hard!” Dying! Anyway, imagine my trauma when my DVR cut off half way through “Don’t Stop Belivin” and I knew I had to wait until the fall to rewatch. Then there’s Lincee coming in to save the day and posting it just to remind how great this show is going to be! Thanks, Lincee!
For those of you who haven’t seen it, you can watch “Glee” at Hulu. Just go to hulu.com and enter glee in the search box. It seems to work better for me than the Fox TV site, which also has the full episode.
Enjoy, Greenbeaners. And thanks, Lincee for bring it to our attention. GREAT!
Loved it, loved it, loved it! I was in my high schools version of glee club, and we did choreography and everything. I can’t WAIT until fall!
I loved the premiere–it’s too bad we have to wait so long to see the rest of the series. My daughter has been playing their version of “Don’t Stop Believing” non-stop since we watched the show. Can’t go wrong with Journey!
OOOh – Thanks goodnes I read your blog! I had totally missed this as my husband is in charge of the DVR during American Idol and we fast forward alot! I am totally watching this in the fall. BTW – I was WAITING for the slow clap by the teacher at the end and was not disappointed.
Love this show! Cannot wait to watch this fall!
Hey Lincee – It’s Sandy here from Rydell High!! I’m sure you were an awesome Cha Cha!!! I loved the premiere episode of Glee as well!! Glad to hear there are other followers!
it’s still on my DVR. I was on the fence about actually watching it, but after the comments I think I have to take a looksie!
Love your blog, Lincee! Also loved the premiere episode of Glee – the music was great. As a former teacher, I love the young teacher who accomplishes the impossible. He’s pretty cute, too!
LOOOOOOOOOOVE this so much. in the words of kate winslet from the movie ‘the holiday’: “i need a little corny in my life.” completely wonderful.
and whoever this main girl is can ROCK it!!!!
OMG I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! I can’t wait for it to be on for the season!! People that don’t like it are crazy and have zero taste in music and quality TV.
Lincee– this is totally off subject– but you have to go see the movie UP you will totally love it…!!
YESS!! DVR’d it, loved it, and forced my friends to come over and watch it. I’ve converted about five people now. I hope it sticks!
P.S. #21…I totally agree!
“TRUE” – OSU as in Oklahoma State? Which house? Did we collaborate or compete?
My husband and I anxiously awaited Glee’s debut and we loved it! We were laughing out loud not too far into it. We suspect it will be great in the long run (LOVED the music; made me think of highschool….) and can’t wait for its return in the Fall (although we were pretty bummed to realize it was a one time only deal for the moment). It’s totally goofy and what’s not to love about that?!?
I too have rewatched this performance many times! So glad that I am not the only fan- hopefully the show has a long life. I was in my high school choir, showchoir, musicals, etc. and can totally embrace the joke. I even performed this song as a solo. I played the piano and sang and had the band back me up. Not that I’ll be on American Idol any time soon- but it sure brought back fun memories!
I love it, too – although I’m uber-pissed that they had to tease us with the trailer of the show and then not actually show us the season until like next September.
I am in full agreeance about stopping your DVR during mid-fast forward. I did the same thing tonight when I spotted the new season of Japanese Game Show during Bachelorette!!
Can I just say the football episode with Kurt coming out is totally on my “TOPS” list! I must have watched that episode a dozen times. I totally re-fell-in-love with Beyonce’s “Put a ring on it”. Hello!
And Puck is Mr. Sizzlin’ hot Guy, ladies. Give it up, already. Mohawk=MoHOT!
Love me some Glee. I had the EXACT same experience as you, Lincee, when it started to debut during American Idol. And you are talking to a Grease alum here as well (Frenchy, 10th grade – everyone’s favorite beauty school drop-out). And can I say, I never liked Kanye’s song “Golddigger” until they did it on Glee. And the Cheerios Coach – she is absolutely hilarious.
