30 days. 30 posts. Go me.

As National Blog Posting Month comes to an end, I feel like patting myself on the back.  I was successful in writing something down (even if it was embarrassing or silly) each and every day in November.  I should treat myself to a cookie or a white hot chocolate from Starbucks, but those currently aren’t on my diet.  Only 18 more days and I’ll be home free.

You see, the big surgery is only weeks away and that’s when the “healthy eating” goes out the window.  That’s right…the ACL reconstruction is down on the calendar for December 18.  MERRY CHRISTMAS.  We’re hoping that third time’s a charm, but you never know with my freak appendages.

Now that doesn’t mean that I am just going to turn my back on blogging between now and then.  There will be PLENTY to share in the coming weeks.  I have parties that will inevitably provide moments of my sarcastic wit to shine.  I have three technical papers due before I go under and we all now how exciting that can be.

And we have Christmas Cafe in which I will be co-hosting with my friend Jill.  Remember how we were lounge singers last December?  This year we are flight attendants.  And we will be serving up sarcasm and humor during the entire flight.

With that said, thanks to everyone who emailed me and left messages in the comment section regarding your love of my daily posting.  I appreciate it more than you know.

But let’s face it.  It’s important to remember where you started from in order to appreciate the journey.

Long live the Bachelor.

Even if he’s trying to be studly and dangerous with his facial scruff in the video below, don’t judge the cheesy slow motion second half until after you’ve seen the ending.  Trust me.

This is a quote from the late Randy Pausch.  I received his book, The Last Lecture,” for my birthday.  It’s about how he learns he has terminal cancer around the same time that he is asked by the administration of the college in which he teaches to give his last lecture.  Typically, professors use this moment to give students their perspective on life and how to live it to the fullest.

In Pausch’s case…it was literally an opportunity to give his last lecture and leave a legacy for both his wife and three kids.

I am about a third of the way through and am already inspired.  It’s interesting to think about what it would take to achieve my childhood dreams (which is a challenge given by Pausch) and then to amp it up and consider the possibility of achieving my adult dreams.

I’m anxious to see where this journey takes me.

Daddy’s hands

My parents hosted 29 people at their house for Thanksgiving.  Early Thursday morning, my Daddy and I were working hard to finish Mom’s to-do list before family arrived at noon.  I was on food prep.  Daddy was on table/chair duty.

We decided we needed a little music to help us with our chores.  Their TV has that section of the guide where you can choose from 500 different music channels.  An avid believer of NO CHRISTMAS MUSIC BEFORE THANKSGIVING, my Dad turned it to the only channel he knew by heart — classic country.

We were humming along to Waylon, Willie, Johnny and George.  And then an old favorite by Holly Dunn came on…”Daddy’s Hands.”

I always thought that song was so sweet.  Because it’s exactly how I remember my Daddy’s hands.  I was sort of tearing up when I turned to look at my Daddy at that moment to watch his hands.

He was picking his nose.

The song will never be the same.  And I think that is awesome!

Dear John

The last two times I was at the movie theater in the last five days (can’t remember what I saw…wink/wink), there was a trailer for the movie Dear John.  It’s based on the book by Nicholas Sparks.  It looks like it has potential.

So I bought the book and finished it in two days.

It made me wonder…have you ever read a book to prepare yourself for the movie?  Or seen a trailer and then went out to buy the book to see what the hype was all about?  Is so, let me know in the comment section.  I’m a sucker for a book being turned into a movie.

And check out the Dear John trailer below and let me know if you think it’s going to be major cheese or just enough romantic comedy.  Although nothing can ever touch The Notebook in my opinion.  Noah and Allie forever!
