Lost in Borders

You know how I’m always about six months to a year late on getting on board with what is new and hot in pop culture?

So there I was in Borders Bookstore trying to figure out where the latest book in the Sookie Stackhouse series would be located (fiction? fantasy? romance?) when an associate came to ask me if I needed help.  I was too embarrassed to admit that I wanted a romance vampire book and was this close to asking where I could find the extended works of Shakespeare when I decided the obligatory, “I’m just looking” would suffice for this nice young man.

I wander around the store for a good 30 minutes, refusing to ask where the book was located.  However, I didn’t mind at all.  Michael Buble’s new album was playing in the background and I was rather enjoying myself.

I spotted an “under $10″ sign and decided I should probably puruse those titles.  You never know what you might find.

Six books later, four people are crossed off my Christmas list.  SCORE!

But the pièce de résistance was an entire collection of Jane Austen.  For $7.99.  HELLO MR. DARCY!

I know what you are thinking.

BBC Mr. Darcy?

colinfirthdarcy

Or Kiera Knightly Mr. Darcy?

KNMD

Toe-MAY-toe…Toe-MAH-toe.  Truly.

So I drag away from the reduced items section, only to find myself in the music section.  And there’s Michael Buble starring at me as if to say, “Wouldn’t you like for me to croon to you in your car as you drive back to the office?  It will make the afternoon so much nicer!”

Knowing that my Sookie book (what am I supposed to call those books anyway?  Sookie?  Dead books?  Charlaine Harris books?) would be about $20, I refrained from taking Michael home.  Perhaps I’ll see him in a stocking in about six weeks?

Just as I’m about to give in and ask the high school kid where I can find Sookie Harris Vampire Series of Southern Romance, I spot a huge display of the books.  Right by the front door.  Adjacent to the Twilight display.

How in heaven’s name I didn’t see either display is beyond me.  After playing a Jedi mind trick on myself to refrain from an impulse purchase of sultry Jacob on a black shirt that would have certainly received jealous looks from innocent teeny boppers at next week’s opening of New Moon, I decided to just buy the last Sookie book.

And by the way…

Can I get that face on a t-shirt?  Or maybe a pillow case.  Is that weird?

Whatever…TEAM ERIC!

You know you love him.  Share it with the WORLD in the comment section!

  1. Amy B Said,

I will be happy to be the first to share in your love for Eric. (I call them The Sookie books) Umm, and thank you – you just gave me my sister’s Christmas present – Eric on a pillowcase. Not sure how I’m gonna do it… I’d never want to get out of bed, I’m just sayin’.

  2. Laura Said,

I will forever love Eric. He’s freaking HOT! I didn’t get into the Tru Blood series until last season (long story), but now I’m truly addicted, and can’t seem to pass HBO with a Tru Blood rerun on. Have to get my Eric fix.
I haven’t started reading the books yet, but am going to start soon.
Have a great day, you make me laugh all the time!

  3. shrtswt2thpt Said,

Can I have one of each to go?

  4. SC Said,

I <3 Mr. Darcy. Either or. YUM! Although the Kiera Knightly Mr. Darcy- standing in the rain? Yes, please.

  5. Erica Said,

Tru Blood is AWESOME and Eric is the hottest character of them all! I agree…I will take him on a t-shirt anyday! I bought a “merlotte’s bar and grill shirt” off Ebay…they actually have Eric shirts and “I want to do bad things w/ Eric” stuff on EBAY! Enjoy your book! If you haven’t watched the HBO series…check it out! (it’s not a PG rating, I can give you that much- borderline skin-o-max…so watch out!)

  6. CO Girl Said,

So I just picked up the new Michael Buble album at Target last night and it was on sale for $9.99 if you must have it before xmas. I must say that I love it!!! Borders and Barnes and Nobles are always so expensive for CDs and other things not book related

  7. CO Girl Said,

Oh and BBC Mr Darcy all the way!!! I own the DVD collection of the BBC

  8. KoKo from Mo City Said,

    Lincee,
I am mad you got the complete works of Jane for $7.99! I bought it about 8 months ago at B&N for $24, I think. I love Mr. Darcy! (Especially Colin’s version of him) But I have not gotten into any of the Vampire crazes yet. My sister, however, loves True Blood. I said I was gonna pick up the Twilight series, but did not want to look like a teeny bopper…I haven’t been a screaming teen in 20+ years!!! And, back then we screamed for Prince!

  9. andrea Said,

saw this at the HBO store in NYC! Enjoy!

  10. Melissa Said,

No way, there is only on Mr. Darcy and it is definitely the BBC Mr. Darcy…no one else could ever be that perfect.

  11. Melissa Said,

Sorry, “one” not “on”. I got a little too excited thinking about Mr. Darcy :)

  12. Amy B Said,

Yes, BBC Mr. Darcy is the best!!

  13. GA Girl Said,

This is one of my favorite posts ever. You sound exactly like me in Borders. Except I have no qualms asking for my Sookie books. Happy reading!

Oh and, BBC Mr. Darcy all the way!

  14. Kate Said,

Definately BBC Mr. Darcy. Such eyes!

By the way Lincee, the Sookie series is located in the Mystery section.

  15. Nance Said,

First of all BBC Mr. Darcy 100%. No questions.

Second of all i honestly rewind parts of True Blood just to watch more of Eric. I adored him the very first episode he appeared in when he was seated in that big chair in Fangtasia. And even more so when he tried to play all sweet and innocent and southern (listen, I’m from jersey) in order to protect Sookie. sigh. oh I love Eric…. and Lincee if you manage to silkscreen his face on a pillow case please send one over my way?

I do want to read the books though… is there now one big giant book with all the “books” in it? Did i hear that?

  16. Laurie On The Prairie Said,

    woof woof, mr. darcy.

  17. SGT Cole Said,

I watched “True Blood” over in Iraq on pirated DVDs (don’t tattle on me). Everytime that vampire dude/former Civil War veteran said “Sookie” it sounded like the Vietnamese prostitute offering her special services in “Full Metal Jacket.”

It was kind of a distraction.

  18. SC Said,

BBC Mr. Darcy is YUMMY but um, Kiera Mr. Darcy in the rain! Makes me weak in the knees!

  19. Micah Said,

Kiera Knightly Mr. Darcy- For SURE!!! The end scene where he walks to her in the sunlit field….oooh. My mouth just started watering.

  20. old fan Said,

I know I’m out of it, but is True Blood based on a series of books about someone named Sookie? And do I really need to watch the show and read the books? Lincee’s recs are usually right on target…….

  21. Colorado Cat Said,

Sgt Cole you are seriously cracking my husband and I up and that is exactly what I thought the first time I heard Bill say Sookie’s name – creepy! Also Old Fan: Yes the character is Sookie and yes I normally would agree with you (about whether or not you should read the books or watch the show) and let me tell you i started off by just watching the show and then my 63 yr old mom who is addicted to her Kindle bought all of the books and sent me her old Kindle (she of course had upgraded) so since I had to kill time until I could re-read the Twilight books again before New Moon came out I decided to give the Sookie books a shot and for the record they are called Southern Vampire Series and I could not put them down – I think once you’ve watched the show you can see the characters in your head in the books which make them that much better and I won’t ruin the stories for anyone but they get much better than the 2 seasons I’ve seen so far of True Blood. So far there are 9 books and the tenth comes out in May.
….and Lincee most definitely team Eric. He is super yumminess.

  22. JennaTaryn Said,

Um hello Colin Firth as Darcy of course. When he is swimming in the pond at Pemberly then in the bathtub all brooding….I digress.
I just wanted to say to anyone who hasn’t read the books or watched True Blood yet – read the books first. And yes you can get them in a set. I bought all nine with the first three in one book and the second two in another and then the rest as singles. Plus you need to get the Sookie short story collection also. I kept thinking that I had missed a book turns out there were little stories in between. Anyway I bought the books as a set after the girls at work went on and on about the show. I do not have cable or HBO so I usually get my serie’s on Netflix. The girls at work were hooked on the series and then decided to read the books and hated them. So I read all the books first and then watched the Series and I am glad I did. The books rule! And Alexander Skarsgard……..I love him. And yes Bill is creepy. What’s even creepier is that Stephen Moyer & Anna Paquin are dating in real life and he is like 15 years older than her…….

  23. SC Said,

I haven’t gotten into the True Blood thing… I don’t know if I want to. I didn’t really care for the Twilight series (it was totally written for the teens) except for the first book, and parts of the last, and of course the movie. I’m REALLY not an Anna Paquin fan, and the guys who are in that show aren’t hot enough to motivate me… am I missing something? However, on a funny note, I met a dog named Sookie yesterday. I’d never heard the name until I read this post. I agree with Sgt. Cole as far as what it made me think of. Happy Veteran’s Day, btw!

  24. Joy Said,

oh… BBC Mr. Darcy all the way my dear!

And Eric… oh, he just gets better with each book. I have yet to see the True Blood series, but I’m already smitten with him through the books!

  25. Holly Said,

I want Alexander Skarsgard on my pillow. Not his face on my pillow…literally him..on my pillow. Sigh.

  26. Bailey Said,

I just want you to know that I did the exact same thing on Monday. Like I actually went through all of the sections at B&N because I refused to ask someone for help for fear that they would have directed me to the teen section.

  27. bwh Said,

It is ALWAYS the BBC Mr. Darcy. ALWAYS.

  28. Erin Said,

Oh my goodness…. the hotness that is Eric (swoon)! My husband actually works at Barnes and Noble and they refer to them as the Sookie Stackhouse novels/series. They are great books and totally addicting!

  29. Colorado Cat Said,

Oooh thanks JennaTaryn for letting us know about the short story collection! I hated that from book to book she skipped a few months and maybe that will tide me over till May…wait who am I kidding. And I want him on my pillow too! My husband is 6′4 and so is Alexander Skarsgard so it’ll be a crowded bed – haha.

Also Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are ENGAGED in real life – yuck.

  30. saench Said,

Since we’re talking angst and vampires, has anyone out there seen The Vampire Diaries on the CW? It’s probably my favorite show at the moment and I basically bought the whole series on iTunes in one day. It has basically satisfied my craving for more Twilight and given me a ton of new yummy vampires to lust after…definitely a show to look out for!

  31. Emily Said,

Hah! Lincee, I was totally embarrassed to buy Twilight at B&N just the other day… I also wouldn’t ask anyone for help. Then I found it and carefully hid it under a pile of other books so noone would see R Pat’s face staring up at me from the cover.

Also, I was reminded of why I go to the library instead of the bookstore now… I spent a good hour in there and books get expensive real quick!

  32. Colorado Cat Said,

Saench: yes I faithfully watch Vampire Diaries too – what is it with all these vampire shows???? haha. CW airs the episodes for free online now (I think at least the last two weeks) and I heard since they cancelled Beautiful life they are re-airing Vampire Diaries on Wednesdays now.

  33. iheartdarcy Said,

So…I hate to be this person, but I can’t contain myself. It’s not BBC Mr. Darcy, it’s A&E Mr. Darcy. Actually BBC Mr. Darcy is a bit of a tool. I only correct because I love! :)

  34. Meredith Said,

Mmmmm… Kiera Knightly Mr. Darcy EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!! Rar! :) I could watch that movie every day! :)

  35. Karen Said,

I wouldn’t be too embarrassed to ask about the Sookie novels at B&N – I bet they get asked about those all the time. And I think they’re categorized under the fantasy section for future reference. ;) I’ve read them all (the last book was SOOOO good – can’t Charlaine H write any faster???) – and although I sort of root for Bill in the books, I’ve switched teams when watching HBO – Eric S is so hot, it’s crazy. YUM.

And if you’re keeping tallys on which Darcy is the best – although it’s a hard call, I’m going to vote for Keira K’s Mr. Darcy by just a hair. It was a tough decision as Firth coming out of that pond toward Pemberly was quite memorable!

  36. Jill Said,

Hands down Colin Firth is the only Mr. Darcy!!!
