This is a quote from the late Randy Pausch. I received his book, The Last Lecture,” for my birthday. It’s about how he learns he has terminal cancer around the same time that he is asked by the administration of the college in which he teaches to give his last lecture. Typically, professors use this moment to give students their perspective on life and how to live it to the fullest.
In Pausch’s case…it was literally an opportunity to give his last lecture and leave a legacy for both his wife and three kids.
I am about a third of the way through and am already inspired. It’s interesting to think about what it would take to achieve my childhood dreams (which is a challenge given by Pausch) and then to amp it up and consider the possibility of achieving my adult dreams.
I’m anxious to see where this journey takes me.
I read this book last winter and was inspired as well. Couldn’t get over the positivity in his message, all the while knowing he probably had less than a year left to spend with his wife and children. I loved how he talked about his upbringing and how he feels like he ‘won the parent jackpot’ or however he said that, referring to how his parents raised him. It’s probably a book I could and should pick up and read again. You’ll love it Lincee!
P.S. – I’m sad that November is coming to an end. Have loved your daily posts for the month!
What are your childhood dreams? And your adult dreams? You should blog about that and we can help encourage you in this journey.
Or track them on http://www.43things.com
You should check out the video on You Tube. It is his whole lecture from the book. So funny and heart warming. I laughed and cried throughout the entire thing. And I agree with Jodee, I am going to miss the daily postings. Although I did see the commercial last night for new season of The Bachelor.
He was on 60 Minutes, or a similar show – he seemed like an incredible man! I should check out the book, thanks for the reminder!
Lincee, I loved this book. I still pick it up every now and again to read a few sections for a refresher. I also watched the youtube video and its a tear jerker. Enjoy the book; it was inspirational . Being a believer I could relate to things he said and things in the Bible. Enjoy the book!
Lincee – I first learned about Randy Pausch when he had just done his last lecture. I then followed him on his blog and read the book, etc. It was so sad when he passed away, but what a wonderful legacy he left for his family, and positive message he left to those inspired by his journey. Enjoy. And happy birthday – was it recently?!
Great book….great message! Should definitely be something read and re-read for a lifetime. Randy Pausch left such a wonderful legacy for his family. I’m going to re-read it again as a matter a fact….thanks for the mention!
