Let’s go to the movies

Perhaps, “Let’s Netflix some movies” is a better song to sing since I can’t drive for another 10 days.

It’s killing me people.  Not being able to drive is about as annoying as not being able to take a bath.  Lord knows I know what THAT feels like too!  Fingers crossed that tomorrow my doctor will let me get the stitches wet and I can live a normal bubble bath – filled life again.  PLEASE DR. MOSELY!  IF YOU ARE READING THIS…HELP A PATIENT OUT AND LET HER SET FIRE TO THE BOX OF TRASH BAGS AND HOT PINK DUCT TAPE THAT CURRENTLY RESIDES ON HER TOILET TANK TOP.  MY LEG NEEDS WATER.  LOVE YA LIKE A GOOD DOCTOR, BUT YOUR INITIALS ON MY KNEE CAP HAVE GOT TO GO SOON!

I’m a bit touchy with the knee today.  Can you tell?

But I’m off topic.

As I sat at my desk earlier, I decided it would be a good time to write about my favorite movies of 2009.  So I did what any normal human would do and Googled a list of movies that debuted this year.

Dear reader, I am an avid movie goer.  Working sort of “in” the business at my previous job, I had passes and tickets to anything and everything and some films I never thought about seeing on the big screen.  But something happened in 2009.

I barely saw any movies.

Of course, I saw the ones that deemed worthy of a big, huge, gigantic, red circle on my calendar:

1.  New Moon:  I might have mentioned my love for a certain werewolf once or twice here, here, here and here.

taylor-lautner-shirtless

2.  Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince introduced me to my new crush

3.  The world wide interweb joined me with my infatuation of Captain James T. Kirk.  (hubba hubba)

I also saw He’s Just Not That In To You and 17 Again and The Proposal.  They were good.

Of course, you can’t win them all.  There were plenty of “meh” moments in the theater with Ugly Truth, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.  I flat out hid under the theater cushion during The Hangover as American Idol Guest Blogger Kyle literally…I mean LITERALLY…rolled in hysterics for most of the movie.

Boys.

And then there was Fame.  Oh Fame.  I had such high hopes for you.  And your soundtrack.  Definitely the biggest disappointment of 2009.

My point?  I’m getting there.

As I sifted through the movies of 2009 to remember the ones I’ve seen, the BIGGER question that came to mind was:

How in the world did I miss seeing some of these movies?  And how have I still not seen some of the ones that were on my radar MONTHS ago?

Get ready.  I’m going to break it down for you.  In no particular order, these include:

Movie:  The Blind Side

To my defense, a Christmas program dominated most of my December.  And immediately following the Christmas play, I had knee surgery that hindered me from thinking straight.  Ironically, I have to walk in a straight leg brace.  But I will see it because I hear it is amazing.

Movie:  Julie and Julia

I love Meryl Streep.  And I adore Amy Adams.  And I thought Julia Childs was a hoot!  Why did I never see this movie?  All of the facts are there in black and white.  It’s a mystery.

Movie:  Michael Jackson’s This Is It

Hello!  I’m a huge MJ fan.  Even worse, I heard it was amazing!  Even worse than that, about 15 people told me I should see it and another 15 were mortified that I had not seen it.  What was I doing that month?  Where was my head?

Movie:  Up

Okay.  I sort of have a defense for this one.  Someone, or several ones, told me it was sad.  And I can’t stand leaving a movie theater sad or feeling yucky as a result of what I just spent money to entertain my brain.  I’m going to need your wisdom Beaners.

Movie:  Night at the Museum 2

See above for my love of Amy Adams.  And I thoroughly enjoyed the first one.  And I remember being excited about the second one.  I’m almost positive I had no idea it came out.  Sort of like how I missed when GI Joe came out.  Did it come out?  I’m off topic again…

Movie:  Whip It

I lived in roller skates from the ages of seven to 12.  This is not an exaggeration.  One of my Mom’s favorite pictures of me is roller skating around the pool (safe, huh?) with my “I’m a Pepper” t-shirt and knee socks.  Some kids got chocolate bunnies and boiled eggs for Easter?  My sister and I scored new roller skates ever year.  Why I would miss a movie about roller derby is beyond me.  I’m in total shock.

Movie:  500 Days of Summer

I heard it was good.  I heard it was great!  I never saw it.  Why?  I don’t know.

Movie:  X-Men Origins

C’MON ON LINCEE!

xmen_wolverine_gambit_taylorkitsch

ryan_reynolds_deadpool_x_men_origins_wolverine

I’m quite confident that I had to be on CRACK to not know two of my favorite crushes were in this movie.  Seriously.

And now that the holiday movie season has hit, there are other shows that have crept up on the radar:

Movie:  Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law?  Please and thank you.

Movie:  It’s Complicated

I heard it wasn’t complicated at all.  I heard it was fabulous.

Movie:  Nine

I love a good movie musical.  But it debuted at number eight.  That can’t be a good sign.  Anyone?

Movie:  Avatar

I’m including this one because I don’t want a million emails telling me to go see this show.  I have no interest.  I’m sorry, but I don’t.  The blue people remind me of Jar Jar Binks and he drove me bananas.  Why couldn’t the main dude (clearly an actor in the running for 2010 movie crush) look like himself?

Sam Worthington attends The Edmont Society Affair: A Benefit for Readers & Writers at The Friars Club on October 27, 2008 in New York City.

Now there’s a movie I’d see in a heart beat.

I need your help.  Steer me in the right direction dear readers.  Help me to decide what is a “must go see now” or “must Netflix now” or “don’t waste your time” because I’m overwhelmed at my choices.

And are there any I left out that you feel were worth mentioning?

You did a great job on the Christmas movie conundrum.  Let’s hear your voices on this one!  HAVE AT IT!

  1. Bachelor Fan Said,

“Julie and Julia” must netflix now
“The Blind Side” must go see now
“Up” was okay…no hurry on this one. Netflix if you are babysitting and need a kid friendly movie and can’t come up with a better option.

    Some others not mentioned:

“Confessions of a Shopaholic” Loved it, must netflix now
    “New in Town” must netflix

  2. Shelley Said,

I, like you, feel there are too many great movies out to see. BUT I have seen a couple and I must say. Go see Blind Side. It is a feel good movie and you need some cheer. Tell the theater you are handicap make you give them a seat to where you can prop up your leg.

I say that… because I have done it. I am almost as lucky with you. 27 and 3 knee surgeries….one ACL a leg and a cartlige.

Tell us what you think of the movies you end up seeing (I saw Sherlock and enjoyed it but you will be on the edge of your seat and I dont want you to fall off….if you like Angels and Demons you would like this…and the actors are amazing).

Hope you can bathe soon! I know the feeling…ALL TOO WELL! (Of course the day I could finally bathe I had a hot medical student in with the doc and more leg hair than I cared to show him…)

  3. Jenny Said,

Definitely check out “Up”…it has sad parts, but you won’t leave feeling sad. It’s actually quite funny!
500 Days of Summer was good, but I think it might be one that, if you go into it with real high expectations, you might be disspointed…but you should see it for sure.
Also, I saw X-Men Origins (totally not my type of movie) and surprisingly really enjoyed it.

  4. linceefan Said,

I would totally encourage you and all the Beaners to see Whip It! I had to work hard to see it (theater cancelled its showing for a film festival and friends’ schedules), and it is was totally worth it. It’s a fun movie that has made me want to go to our local roller derby. Who doesn’t love Drew and Ellen? Put this at the top of your Netflix lists and have a girls’ night to watch it! And, it will make you wish you still had some of your old Girl Scout uniform.

  5. Billie Jean Said,

“Up” is only sad the first 10 minutes, then it gets hillarious! All I’m saying is “the dogs” ! LOL Even more funny since watching it Christmas night 2 days after our dog had surgery and was at the time wearing one of the big satalite collars. It’s very cute – watch it!

  6. JL Said,

Definately Netflix Julie and Julia – Love this movie. The Julia Childs side of the story makes the movie. Meryl Streep is wonderful.

Up is a really cute movie and only sad for a few minutes in the beginning.

I was not enthusiastic about seeing Avatar on Christmas day, I was REALLY wanted to see Sherlock Holmes. But I lost the toss and I’m the only girl in the family. But shouldn’t Mom’s vote count times 10? Anyway. If you have nothing better to see, I definately recommend seeing this movie in 3D. The movie itself is okay but the 3D is really amazing.

  7. Lisa Said,

We haven’t been able to get out much. But the one time I ventured out with my son was to see Up! Don’t…I had to hide my tears from him. It’s very sweet, still many funny moments, but I literally couldn’t get a grip during it. I would have much preferred to hide my hysterical ugly cry in the privacy of my own home! So is it a good movie and a must-see? Yes. Do you want to be sure to watch it with no one around? Yes. Will it remind you of some good life-lessons? Yes.

Hope the healing keeps up and I’m crossing my fingers for bath success!!

  8. SC Said,

First of all Lincee, my sister and I had a conversation about “Up” the other day, and she said the beginning is sad, but the movie is really good. Second of all, HELLO, anyone else seen “Brothers”? JAKE GYLLENHAL? YUM! It was a great movie. A bit heavy, but very interesting. I have no interest in seeing Avatar, but keep hearing great things. Heard Jim Carrey’s Christmas Story movie was awesome, but a little scary for the youngins.I keep hearing good things about 500 days too, and it’s on my OnDemand… must watch. On the bright side, Jake’s train wreck starts Monday!

  9. Jodi Said,

I can’t comment on too many movies due to the fact that I had a baby last Dec, therefore an infant and toddler at home = not too many date nights to see movies. I’m way way behind and plan on hitting some serious Red Box soon. HOWEVER. My sweet hubby did take me out to see This Is It. I love MJ to my very core. And he CERTAINLY did not disappoint. Cried 3 times, not due to really to sadness (other than he is gone and that is wrong in every sense of the word), but due to AWE. He rocks. Not ONCE in the movie is he singing in full voice or dancing full-out, so it hit me a few times how robbed we are that no one got to see that show for real. But even still, it’s amazing. I’ll shut up now, but from one HUGE MJ fan to another…. See. That. Movie.

  10. Meggan Said,

Go see The Blind Side and It’s complicated as soon as you possibly can.
    Netflix New in Town.

  11. Heather Said,

I finally saw 500 Days of Summer last week and I absolutely loved it. Hadn’t heard much about it before. Definitely see Blind Side too. Another movie getting lots of buzz is Invictus…but I could barely stay awake during it. And speaking of disappointments, I couldn’t agree more about FAME. Such a let down.

  12. terri Said,

single mom here to 2 small children, don’t get to see many movies–but I am soooooo wanting to see Precious. I love stories of underdogs. I also soooooo want to see The Blind Side–another underdog story–for many reasons but one is that my coach, Nick Saban, is in it!!! Yum-o! Roll Tide Roll!

  13. Maureen Said,

I forgot that Riggins is in that X-men movie. I might just have to rent it and fast forward through the non-Riggins and Ryan Reynolds parts.
I also love Amy Adams and can’t wait to see the movie Leap Year, coming out in January. Julie & Julia is next on my netflix list.
Definitely rent Up, the sad part will make you cry, but it’s very touching. The rest of the movie is good… cute & funny.
I didn’t like 500 days of summer that much, it was okay, but I didn’t love. But if you do rent it, you will enjoy a great sing and dance number! That was my favorite part.
I feel the same way about Avatar – no interest!
I want to see Sherlock Holmes just for Jude Law. “Please and thank you” – LOL
Least fav movie of the year – Angels and Demons. Favorite movie of the year – Adventureland. I loved it… great movie, 80s music soundtrack AND Ryan Reynolds is in it!!!! Definitely put it on your netflix list if you haven’t seen it yet.
The next movie I really want to see in the theaters is Up in the Air with George Clooney – heard it’s really good. Hope your knee heels up okay and you are able to take a bath soon! Happy new year… looking forward to the Bachelor recaps!

  14. okcheather Said,

loved blind side and julie julia

  15. Jodee Said,

As of right now, I can only speak to The Blind Side…as I just wen to see it finally today. and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it. I’m not a crier, and it had my leaking a few tears of joy. Just a fabulous story. So good to watch it play out and know that it’s true.

  16. JenBabe Said,

Please, please, do NOT bother with Night at the Museum 2. Complete disappointment, especially since the 1st was great and I heart Ben Stiller!!!

X-Men Origins is a must see…but that’s coming from a die hard X-Men fan (yep, I brought that trilogy into my marriage, not my husband!)

You didn’t mention it, but I say Netflix Bride Wars!!! It’s really clean and seriously enjoyable.

Can’t say I’ll be joining the Sherlock love. I am an avid reader and fan of the books – I own and have read in entirety the two volumes of the Complete Sherlock Holmes, and the movie seems so far removed from the books that I’m not sure I can do it. Maybe I will Netflix that one!

I enjoyed Avatar, and I didn’t expect to. Just FYI.

And finally, I too have heard INCREDIBLE things about The Blind Side…so I’m planning on seeing that one New Year’s Day!

I love your blog Lincee! I probably won’t be watching Jake’s trainwreck of The Bachelor (I’m a full time grad student/part time academic advisor…some things must go), but I absolutely will be reading your blog about it!

  17. CeeCee Said,

I loved UP as did my 5 and 7 year old children. Like everyone else said, a touch sad in the begining but very sweet ending and absolutely hilarious parts throughout. Gotta disagree with Jenbabe ( sorry !) but I liked Night at the Museum 2. I thought it was funny. Not the best film ever, but entertaining. Now – for a movie I was extremely disappointed in- The Princess and the Frog. Don’t want to give any spoilers and ruin it for anyone, but I will say that Disney always has to put a little too much “real life tragedy” in every film. And this one had two tragedies. Unnecessary in my opinion, but I was there with a five year old who was in tears. I’m guessing that many others loved it, and of course there were great parts, but seeing my child cry at a movie just made me angry. If you are at all a ” mush” at movies like me, then go in forewarned.
I have missed so many adult movies as I tend to see mostly kid films in the theater but thanks to all who posted as I will have a lot more flicks to add to my Netflix list!
    Happy new year everyone!

  18. Laurie Said,

MUSTS IN THEATRE: Blide side, Up (really only sad the first few minutes, and to respond to #5, “Squirrel!”, Avatar in 3D (again, like #6, see it for the 3D if nothing else!)

    MUSTS ON NETFLIX: Julie&Julia

I also just saw Up in the Air (Meh – too close to home in this economy, but GEORGE CLOONEY!!) and Invictus (another movie you leave feeling good about, plus, MATT DAMON).

Also, there are previews for a remake of Death at a Funeral. The previews looked hilarious, but I didn’t realize that it was a remake.. then the original was on tv – one of THE funniest movies of all time. SO, i highly recommend NETFLIXing the original Death at a Funeral (the new one isn’t out yet, so it won’t be confusing yet).

  19. MT Nest Said,

Dr. Mosely? BRUCE Mosely is your doc? I (heart) Dr. Mosely. He’s the one who repaired my knee after another Houston-area doc thoroughly messed it up by 2 bad ACL repairs. Dr. Mosely did a bone graft and later another ACL repair using a tendon from my opposite knee. That was several years ago and the repairs have held. Good luck with yours!

  20. Jen from Tucson Said,

I just saw “It’s Complicated” last night and it was so funny. Totally wrth it (and John Krasinski is in in it, which I didn’t know..woo hoo!). And when did Alec Baldwin get so old? I remember movies from not so long ago, when he was considered the heart throb..or maybe I’m just older than I think :) Oh and Lincee…I had an “I’m a Pepper” shirt too.

  21. Leslie from Austin Said,

Funny must see movies – Confessions of a Shopaholic and Bride Wars.

Suspense must sees – Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (just watched it last night and it was good, with a twist at the end) love Michael Douglas, Obsession (was this in 2009?)

Movies NOT to see – If you don’t like feeling sad at the end of a movie, don’t ever, EVER go see Gran Torino.

  22. marla Said,

why oh why did i see 500 days of summer. i don’t know. it was sad. i felt like i got broken up with 500 times.

blind side was fabulous. inspiring. uplifting. made me want to go adopt a ton of people right off the street.

avatar was weird but interesting. awesome special effects. do not see sans 3D glasses – my friend did and i’m not sure why.

julia and julia was had too much old people sex/making out and i wanted to puke. seriously. and the husband chewed with his mouth open ALL. THE. TIME.

night at the museum 2 – meh. that about sums it up. the first one was better.

am dying to see the new romantic comedy with amy adams — where she attempts to propose. however i don’t like the whole girl chasing/proposing being featured because that’s the last thing we need with chivalry already needing CPR at this point.

let’s see – what else – new moon of course was great — but i almost liked twilight better, bad acting and all. more edward/bella.

ps — maybe you will talk about the bachelor soon — but man, this season looks WAY PAINFUL. what are we going to do?!

  23. Lindy Said,

Up. I borrowed it from a friend’s 7-year-old last weekend. Bor-ring…3 people in the last 2 days have told me Avitar is a MUST…I’m kinda with Lincee….blue people? Saw Julie & Julia…entertaining…don’t go hungry. I got the cookbook for Christmas….so much for trying to lose weight in 2010. Happy New Year everyone!

  24. adriana Said,

I have Up and (500) Days Of Summer right now from Netflix… so many more of those I need to see, too!

  25. CO Girl Said,

Heard so many good things about Blind Side and hoping to see it this weekend. As for Avitar my brother saw it and he said it talked a lot about anti war and how we should not be in a war and also a lot about Pantheism so was very anti Christian. He didn’t see it in 3d though so if he had he might have liked it better.

  26. ab3 Said,

Sorry to get off track, but Lincee have you read this: http://tvwatch.people.com/category/the-bachelor/. Supposedly, there is some scandal in the first few weeks of the bachelor, but it may just be a marketing ploy, like usual. Let’s hope this time ABC really delivers instead of taunting us, only to find out that whatever happens is really lame!

  27. MovieFan Said,

Oh my goodness Lincee, you must see UP! I totally cried my eyes out in the first 15 minutes but that makes you LOVE the rest of the movie even more. You will most definitely be left with a smile at the end of it.

also, I loved Night at the Museum 2 – I’m sure you’ll enjoy it if you love Amy Adams. X-Men Origins is a definite MUST NETFLIX NOW because I liked it so much that I just about restarted it from the beginning when it ended. Enjoy!

  28. KT Said,

The Blind Side was (in my opinion) the best movie of 2009, see it immediately and bring tissues, not because it’s sad (I don’t want to scare you off) but because it restores your faith in humanity a little bit. also, 500 Days of Summer was fantastic!!! I hope you can bathe soon, Lincee!

  29. Nicole Said,

    500 Days of Summer is a must! It’s a great movie… a new favorite!

  30. heidi Said,

I loved Up! And I may be in the minority here, but I also loved The Hangover! Watched it this past weekend with my cousins… yes the language was awful, but the premise was so ridiculous, you had to laugh!

  31. Emma Said,

    Go see Blind Side!!

  32. CeeCee Said,

Heidi- I loved the Hangover too. A little raunchy for some but still very funny. It’s in my category of must haves like Something About Mary. Bought it yesterday and going to watch it tonight with the hubby!

  33. sc Said,

Btw, that pic of Taylor Lautner is ummmmm… stimulating, but HELLO inappropriate! Showin’ off his little boy hips and the muscles and his pants are awfully low! Geez, I hope I never have daughters!

  34. newfan Said,

Go see Blindside! Such a feel-good movie and I love that it’s based on a true story!

  35. Nance Said,

unless you’re totally into digital imaging and fancy schmancy animation skip Avatar.

what about Brothers? i’m dying to see that.

I heard It’s Complicated was AWESOME. i love meryl streep.

hope you’re healing quickly and got the ok to take a bath. that’s so cute you’re mom gave you a bell to ring. sounds like a good mom :-)

happy new year! bachelor on monday….you’ll be busy soon!

(ever watch make it or break it on ABC family??)

  36. Nance Said,

**YOUR** mom. ugh so annoyed i did that.

  37. Toointothis Said,

#22 marla – You are so funny! The fact that they had the “mature” Julia and her hubby intimate all over the place was part of the charm! It was just so funny to think of that short little man so INTO Julia, who was no little woman! Best line as she was eating, “I’m practically growing right before your very eyes!” Love Meryl Streep and she did a FANTASTIC job of bringing Julia Child to life! Amy Adams was great too – Who didn’t relate to her breakdown on the kitchen floor? :-) Cute movie. A must see!

  38. sc Said,

Nance- see above for Brothers. Saw it, loved it.

  39. Chickpea Said,

    Lincee… my two cents:

    1. Oh please see “Up!” I adored it (and cried at the start). I admit to being biased, I know people at Pixar and the movie mentions my seriously very favorite ice cream parlor in the whole world. But it’s so fun and sweet and funny!!!

    2. I can’t agree with 16 JenBabe about Bride Wars… and I was in it! (extra) I thought it was not even worth watching on DVD…

    3. Very curious about Nine, but I really want to see “Up in the Air”!

    Happy New Year!!!!!!

  40. SC Said,

    Bride Wars was AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWFUL1!

  41. JenBabe Said,

Chickpea & SC – maybe I just love teen movies too much, but I really did like Bride Wars! :) I just bought it the other day!

  42. jammf Said,

First of all I emphatically recommend Nine ! Anyone who loves musicals will be entertained with the huge numbers. The audience I saw it with reacted little though. I think they just didn’t *get* it. Some of the songs from the stage production that help explain to the audience what is going on were cut. So just know that a lot of the story is in Guido’s (Daniel Day Lewis’) head. He’s struggling to grow up and leave his nine year old childish self behind. He *wants* all of the women but realizes if he tries to have them all he’ll end up with none. Fergie was absolutely awesome. Her song has always been my favorite of the soundtrack. I have both Raul Julia’s and Antonio Banderas’ cast recordings and have ordered the movie soundtrack because the movie cast was that wonderful! Go see it and please let us know what you think of it.

Now for the the other movies of the year…
Blind Side was one of my favorites, well done in every way.
Precious was soooo difficult to watch. The story is terribly sad it reminded me of my old social worker days. So if you don’t mind being disturbed nearly the entire movie, see it. Otherwise pass.
Julie and Julia a favorite. I laughed at the above poster who doesn’t like seeing older people enjoy sex.
Young Victoria is a favorite, too. I saw it at a film festival earlier in the year. If you like costume dramas you’ll love it. I didn’t want it to end. I really like Emily Blunt as Victoria.
I missed Whip It and can’t wait to rent it.
Invictus was good but not as good as the above favorites.
Sherlock Holmes was good. I love RDjr and Jude Law but a lot of the time I couldn’t understand what RDjr was saying because of his accent. I could have used closed captioning. ha! I loved the look of the movie, it set the atmosphere really well.
Avatar—I have no desire to see this for the same reasons you stated. :)
Feel better soon. I hope you have permission to take a bubble bath now.

  43. anne Said,

I too had ZERO desire to see Avatar but went anyways – and listen to me….YOU HAVE TO GO SEE THIS IN THE THEATER. In 3-D. It’s freaking amazing. I was sort of ticked off the first 20 minutes because I still wasn’t getting all the hype, and then the night forest scene kicked in and holy crap.

I heard Sherlock Holmes was worth saving for a rental, not theater worthy.

Julie and Julia was very good. You’ll enjoy. Up is also worth seeing and I didn’t think it was sad at all – at least not at the end.

  44. lvdmusician Said,

“It’s Complicated” is HYSTERICAL!!! I just saw it with a girlfriend and we were crying…I rarely buy movies, but this is one for sure that I’ll purchase when it comes out. RUN to see it when you’re actually up and running again (hope the recovery is going well!) Less than 50 hours till the Bach premiere…woo-hoo!

  45. newfan Said,

Don’t see Brothers. There are plenty of other movies with Jake to drool over, and this isn’t really one of them. Brothers was disturbing and made me very upset for the military and what they go thru. There was no feel-good ending. I hate spending $10 and 3 hours to walk out of a theater feeling bummed out.

  46. Colorado Cat Said,

I haven’t read all of the comments but New in Town was great hilarious really. I got free passes to see it otherwise I probably wouldn’t have gone but it was really cute. The Proposal was cute too…in a meet the Fockers kind of way. I was not at all interested in seeing Avatar either Lincee…but my brother announced it was our christmas movie this year (we always see a movie on xmas) and since he was buying the tickets I said okay….we saw it in 3D and while I hate to be one of those readers I really did like it a lot and there is plenty of screen time with Sam Worthington in all his glory (it switches between blue world and the real world I’d say 60/40) so you will have plenty of time to admire him because let’s face he’s extremely hot. When I left the movie I wanted to live on that damn planet. Sherlock Holmes was good too – fun and entertaining. Oh and we just watched District 9 last night – that was entertaining too.

  47. Colorado Cat Said,

oh yeah and Adventureland! netflix it! and seriously you HAVE to watch Paranormal Activity! If you like scary movies you will love it and if you don’t then just keep telling yourself its not real.

  48. Colorado Cat Said,

Bride Wars and Confessions of a Shopholic – they were ok – cute but I expected more from bride Wars – I was disappointed!

  49. Colorado Cat Said,

I have Up and Julia and Julia at home on DVD and am so psyched to watch both today and I just added the first season of Glee to my netflix queue – cannot wait!

  50. SC Said,

so I watched a movie yesterday- “passengers” with Anne Hathaway (love her) and Patrick Wilson (oh so dreamy) and it was good but the end was SO depressing! UGH!

  51. My Awesomeness Said,

Okay, I saw Avatar and it was good. The forest was amazing and yes, I even wound up liking the blue people! I did not expect to.

    It is worth seeing.

  52. SGT Cole Said,

“Blue people?” that sounds vaguely racist like “you people.” Hey “My Awesomeness”, this is a blog for light-hearted chit chat about reality shows, not a forum for hate!

  53. Melissa Said,

“The Blind Side”….Please go see it! I saw it twice, may see it again 2mara or Avatar! Not sure yet!
“It’s Complicated”…John Krasinski is so CUTE & funny in this movie!!!! I’d see it again just to see him!

  54. Melissa Said,

Oh yeah, 1 of the 3 movies I got from Netflix this week was, “Away We Go” starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. I enjoyed it! It has a JUNO’esque feel to it…with a lot of humor and heart! Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character is hilarious…one word, “stroller”!

  55. AussieNatalie Said,

One film I was dragged along to but really enjoyed (and didn’t think I would) was Zombieland. A bit gruesome in parts (in a schlocky zombie kinda way) but Woody Harrelson was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!! I laughed out loud a number of times….Sam Worthington is gorgeous..of course he’s Australian lol if you get the chance to get an Australian series called “Love My Way” on DVD it’s absolutely wonderful and he’s in 10 of the episodes of the later series.

  56. Lori Said,

I only saw Julie & Julia and Whip It – loved them both! I’ve been wanting to buy Up, but haven’t done it yet – I love the commercials with the dog (reminds me of my ADD dog!)

I’m on the “not so fond of” Avatar train too – but I definitely want to see The Blind Side and It’s Complicated – they are on my list!

  57. Brett Said,

Up is such a great movie — definitely sad but uplifting and sweet. I loved 500 Days of Summer and would highly recommend it.

Nine is absolutely terrible. My mom and I saw it last week and almost walked out. We just kept hoping that it would get better, but alas, we waited in vain. If you’re expecting something as good as Chicago, just save your $10.

  58. beens Said,

I just saw nine this weekend and I loved it, probably because I grew up singing and dancing. the singing and dancing sections were my favorite parts. I went w/ a non-singing/dancing friend and he loved it as well, he usually critiques all movies and looks at things like the directing, cinematography, lighting, acting, etc.

  59. Jessica Said,

I know some posters have said don’t go to Night at the Museum 2, but my husband and I really enjoyed it. There are some funny parts if you know your history. We just watched Up last night, and although the first 10 mins are sad, setting the story for the rest of the movie, the little chubby boy scout and the dogs make the movie! Enjoy!

  60. Ashley Ann Said,

I totally fell asleep in Julie & Julia…. it was boring. Night at the Museum was cute and worth Netflixing (it’s a verb now!). The Blind Side was INCREDIBLE! You will absolutely adore it and cry and laugh and want to go adopt a 15 year old 250 pound football player.

  61. Tracey Said,

AVATAR – I had zero desire to see it, thought it was way too sci fi for me, but it was AMAZING!!! Totally blew me away. And I agree with the other posters if you have the opportunity to see it in 3D you really should. My 9, 19 and 20 year old all enjoyed it.

  62. Shelley Said,

I’m just glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t want to see Avatar.

  63. Jill Said,

I am still a major fan of 500 days of summer–it is my favorite movie of the past few years. it is smart and funny and sad and has a great dance number right in the middle of it. you will love it i promise!

  64. Kim Said,

OK, you HAVE to see Blind Side…if you don’t do anything more this winter that is a MUST SEE movie. My two young kids went with me to see it and they LOVED it. I thought it had a good family feel to it and it made you think that one person can change the life of another.

  65. SC Said,

I kinda have a crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt (wasn’t he in 500 days of summer?). Anyone else? He’s a cutie And funny.

About Avatar… I’m soooooooo “meh” about it.

  66. Firestone_4_eva Said,

I think that if you are going to see Avatar, you have GOT to see it in the theater. It just will not be the same on a regular tv. I also was annoyed by Jar Jar Binks but Avatar is beautiful and visually stunning. And you get to see Sam Worthington looking normal quite a bit…its delicious. I also think Nine is another you should see in the theater because the dance numbers are better on the big screen. Everything else can wait for Netflix.

  67. Kathleen Said,

Absolutely see “Up.” I don’t know if I would call it sad, but poignant. And hilarious. Dug the Dog is the best canine character in the history of movies. I just don’t think you can go wrong with Pixar.

  68. Colorado Cat Said,

Julia and Julia was OK cute but not great. I totally understand all the posters who don’t really care to see Avatar – I was right there with ya but my bro bought our tickets in 3D for xmas day and rather than be a hater I decided to go to see it with the fam and it was great – really great. My husband and I are talking about going to see it again in 3D. I even drank a big cherry coke during the previews and had to pee soooo bad throughout the movie but I literally did not get up out of my seat because I didn’t want to miss anything – it was that good.

  69. Sleep deprived mom Said,

    I loved Sherlock Holmes!!!

  70. Shaun Elizabeth Said,

Julie and Julia is fantastic! I would start your netflix with that.

The MJ movie was great and very interesting. Its all behind the scenes so you get to see how he works.

I would definitely go see Nine. I’ve seen it twice and think it’s great. Its a very unique movie and the cinematography is great as well as the musical numbers.

Whip it, 500 days of summer and Up are all a must. And I would also recommend Bride Wars, very cute movie.

Also, #65, I totally agree JGL is ADORABLE!
