Bachelor Jake: Episode 3
Monday, January 18, 2010 @ 11:01 PM
I’m writing a letter to Jake on yellow notebook paper. After that, I’m going to search the upside down Spiderman kiss on YouTube so I can include it in my recap.
So much to do. So little time.

Tina: just curious what evidence you have that Ella is a “good mom”? Mostly we saw was her mooning over Jake with her back to the son she hasn’t seen in weeks. Also, no good moms I know would leave their kid for such an extended period of time to be on a reality TV dating show. Maybe she IS a good mom– I just don’t see how us viewers could assess that.
Also, ABC needs some new staff or something because the rerun dates/contestants is getting ridiculous. All that was missing from Ella’s date was a shot of her running to meet Ethan with a motherly head butt.
Ella is Stephanie (from Jason’s season) sans jewelry. I see not chemistry there, at all!!!
JennX – no “evidence” and you make a good point about no good mom would leave their kid. I guess what I should have said was she seemed like a loving mom and that she had a good kid (which would = , at least to me, that she is a good mom). Regardless, I think we’ve all made judgements about these girls with little to no “evidence”. We just go on our feelings/gut…
Lizzie, it wasn’t just you. I thought I saw the same thing when they showed Ali in that bikini.
Vienna is not my favorite, but I think her problem is her age, and her internal censor seems to be turned off. In her real life she probably speaks without thinking a lot. I can’t speak for what ABC doesn’t let us see, but generally when the girls start telling the bachelor that someone “isn’t ther for the right reasons”, we usually see some of the actions. There seams to be a big piece of the puzzle missing.
Did anyone else pick up on Ali saying “all of us girls have had to walk away from a situation with you where you were talking bad about the other girls”?? I think they aren’t showing Vienna in her true fashion. Why would Ali say that? Vienna must be bad mouthing other girls and we just aren’t seeing. So they are making Ali look like she is being a bitch, when I think she was just calling Vienna out for being two-faced! TEAM ALI!! And glad to see that Reality Steve was WRONG with his prediction about Ella leaving on the Sea World date. I like Ella, but not for Jake. We could have played a drinking game with how many time Elizabeth said “kiss me” last night! Did she really not get it?? Glad she is gone.
Tina & JennX – Didn’t you pick up on her first reaction – “What are YOU doing here??” I have a seven year old, and my first reaction would NOT have been that. She didn’t seem genuinely happy to see him at first, IMO. Agreed, I would never leave my seven year old at home for that long to go gamble on finding a daddy for him. CRAZY! But this was supposed to be her romantic date with Jake, and she had her son with them. I hope she gets another chance to spend quality time with just Jake, see if they even have anything in common.
I meant “There seems to be a big piece of the puzzle missing”.
Did anyone else see the commercials (I saw them online) for the BIG BREAKING NEWS from Tenley? (trying not to spoil it) It was supposed to be part of last night’s show, then they didn’t even air it!!! What’s the deal with that, anyone know??
Looking forward to the recap, Lincee!!
#55 Tracy — it was an odd thing to say, but I chalk it up to her watching last season’s Bachelor and watching Stephanie head-butt her little girl. Maybe she was making a conscious effort not to knock her kid out or be too overly excited? Either way, I’m cutting her some slack.
#55 Tracy – I am completely in agreement. I have two 7 year olds and I thought the exact same thing. She was not looking like a mom who had missed her son and was thrilled to see him. For the love of God, she didn’t even get up from the bench! I would have been jumping around screaming to see my girls. But then, I wouldn’t have left them to find love in the first place.
#55, 58, 59
I was thinking she might be a little upset to have her son involved at this stage of the game. She even said that normally, she wouldn’t even THINK of introducing a man to her son this early.
It would’ve been nice if Jake gave the kid his plane back though, instead of some crappy balsawood glider.
#53 Lorraine – I agree…what are we not seeing from Vienna? Maybe I’ve just missed it, but I haven’t really seen her talking bad about anyone like Ali suggested. And kuddos to Ali for standing up to her if she is bad mouthing the other girls. I am kidda liking Gia now too. Guess we’ll have to wait for the Women Tell All to hear all about what Vienna was really like.
I personally though Ali and the ladies putting Vienna in her place was the right thing to do. We have nto seen all of the goings on in the house and, like everyone says, it is editing, editing, editing.
Now, Jessie may be a “Jen” for the Andrew Firestone season. He hardly spoke to her until towards the end either. It is not a gooood thing ’cause they did not work out, but I’m just pointing out the obvious.
I can’t wait for next week and the “do I have to give out the final two roses?” question to OHCH!!!
Who is Jessie?
I had to leave the room during the “comedy” club segment – it was just too painful to watch.
Ella’s zit/mosquito bite was totally distracting. I felt like Austin powers in that scene with Fred “The Mole” Savage. Ziiiiiiiit….Zittyzittyzitty zit!
Loved, LOVED seeing Michell’s and Elizabeth’s mind games backfire on them.
My wife pointed out that Jake’s ginormous motorcycle helmet makes him look like The Great Gazoo. Now I can’t stop snickering every time he rides up wearing it.
#20 Heather- read somewhere Valisha’s husband had an affair, left her, and they have 2 kids, so basically she is a stay at home divorced mom, who I think is somesort of part time news/”talk show” host in her hometown.
Did anyone else notice the dead tulips in the background of several of Jake’s interviews? Was the ABC intern fired b/c of the recession?? It drove me nuts!!
Can someone send us a link of Jesse’s picture? I can’t find it on the ABC website (all I get are the episodes).
Thanks!
Regarding Vienna: she grew on me last night as well. But not only was there Ali’s comment, remarked upon above, that “we’ve all had to walk away from bad things you were saying about the other girls” but also remember that part of Corrie’s routine, mimicking Vienna, was “and I love to go around talking crap about the other girls.” So clearly there is a LOT we are not getting to see here. But ain’t that always the way?
Not really seeing Jake with any of these women…er, I mean, girls. But I am much more convinced that he is a genuine, sincere person after last night than I have been at any moment before that (including Jillian’s season).
# 68 Juno – I agree that I like Jake more now. I like that he took the bull by the horns so to speak and called out Lizzie for her teasing and Michelle’s “I’ll go home unless you ask me to stay” crap.
#66 AggieM, maybe the fired staffer was responsible for the flowers.
#57- RE: Alli Said,
Did anyone else see the commercials (I saw them online) for the BIG BREAKING NEWS from Tenley?
There was a voiceover of her saying she is Preggo on the commercials…they didn’t air it on the show but you can see it on Chris Harrison’s blog. When she tells Jake that she is divorced, she starts the convo by saying she’s preggo then J/K.
#47 Linda I did watch Jake yesterday and he didn’t seem all that happy. I’m sure (or at least hope) that he picks someone, but maybe they aren’t together anymore? Maybe he will pull a Jason and change his mind! I see the “Ali for the next Bachelorette” stuff, but I am still hoping Jake picks her.
Okay, so I am NOT on the bandwagon for Vienna. Everytime I look at her, I wonder what color her hair is naturally. I think she would look so much prettier with dark hair. The blonde hair looks awkward and wrong! She is completely annoying and immature!!
I am very proud of Jake for ditching Elizabeth and Michelle. Two crazies down!! Yay!!
As for Valisha, someone mentioned early on that she has 2 kids and either her husband left her or died….not sure which. You have to remember that there is editing and her time with Jake was just not shown. Same as Corrie and Jessie. I think Jessie is adorable and my husband is convinced that she is the sleeper.
As for Ali, I still love her!! I think the editing might just have shown her as the leader of the mean girls. I think she has the best chemistry with Jake – that has been shown anyway.
I still don’t like Ella because of the intro that they showed of her. She did seem really nice on her date though.
I thought last night’s episode was one of the most hilarious yet. Jake may have been a weenie at the bungee jump but stood up to two crazy girls very respectably IMO.
Gia is very sexy and sweet–I’m sure they have a lovely date at the winery next week, but sorry–her comic book face and baby voice would get to me after a while. Plus she’s a dress up kind of girl from what I see–Jake likes the sporty side of a woman a lot.
Jessie is the pretty dark haired girl from Canada –they aren’t giving her much air time so that may say something.
I still thnk Ali is a good match for him–sexy, sporty, smart and strong. She just needs to focus those energies on Jake and not Vienna.
‘Can’t wait for Lincee to give us some comic relief on this crazy episode!!!
Anyone notice the crazy big wine glasses that Jake and Vienna used on their date? They were so odd!!
Michelle: “I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to be married.”
Jake: “I believe you.”
Classic. Thank you.
I think I’m on team Vienna BECAUSE she’s not as conventionally pretty and poised as some of the other women, has regular features and bad hair extensions. And I think Jake really seems to like her… I really like that of all the women who told him they’re here for him, he told her that she’s here for her too.
Sure, she ran off and got married at 18 because she was upset. And it didn’t take nearly as long for her to admit it as it took Tenley to admit that she had been married and was now divorced (seemingly, thru no fault of her own.
She’s a little annoying… but in an oblivious way, which sort of endears her to me. I think she owns her faults and doesn’t apologize for them. And it makes me like her.
Lincee – your blog is hilarious, I am a fan from the e-mail days! I work from home, so this blog is like my watercooler
I was a huge Reid fan and not that excited about Jake this season, but decided to stick with it mostly because of this blog! I have to say Jake grew on me last night. I literally LOL’d when Michelle said I am looking for a husband and Jake responded “I believe you”. I don’t think it was meant to be funny, but I laughed so very hard!! He had to sense her desperation. I was so proud of Jake for actually sending her home right then and there.
Although, I don’t think Ali should walk around like Queen Bee, I also feel there is A LOT we are not seeing with Vienna. There has to be some reason they are all annoyed with her and felt they needed to mention it to Jake. I am having a hard time choosing my favorite right now.
Ok, break’s over! This blog and the fun comments make Tuesdays so much better!
i just don’t think there is a girl for Jake in this crazy bunch. Where did they GET these girls?
Jillian is a hard act to follow.
Whoa! Look who grew some cojones! Yay Jake!
I had to watch the Michelle scene a couple times while shrieking “Oh, she did NOT!” Priceless.
And I’m so glad Jake gave the nanny the boot. I couldn’t stand how giggly and coy she was while he was trying to have a serious discussion with her. Ick. And after the rose ceremony when she was all “I should have kissed you” the TV was pummeled with throw (literally) pillows.
No chemistry with Ella. Sad.
And, dear Corrie, *that* was really unattractive. I wish you had a little more class. Why are all the girls complaining to Jake that they don’t get along with Vienna? He’s not their camp counselor!
There are so many patterns to this show–some in the repeat planning of the dates by producers and good old human nature at it’s best.
ie: Ali had the first date and all the excitement that goes with that, including a live concert. Very romantic. Jake fell head over heels in love at that same point with Jillian and went goofy trying to keep up the high–even getting protective. Ali is doing all the same things.
I wish ABC had followed Ellens suggestion-made Jake keep Michelle around all season–”MIchelle cam” spots throughout the episodes. See her cutting Vienna’s extentions off, jumping on Ali like a wild cat, madly looking for her medication—endless fun.
Jake looked like he was going to simultaneously cry, vomit, pee his pants, and pass out at the bungee jump date! too funny!
Viena’s bikini on that date reminded me of a swimsuit I had when I was 4- with the ruffle around the butt. I missed large chunks of the episode last night because I was watching HIMYM, but I’m definitely not on team Viena. She still comes off like a spoiled brat to me. And she cried when they wouldn’t accept her apology, which wasn’t really an apology at all. Part of asking for forgivness is the promise that you will change your ways, which she basically said, I’m sorry you are offended, but I’m not going to do anything different.
I’m super excited for the rose burning next week! Go Jake!
Okay, I totally noticed the biggest wine glasses EVER! Why wasn’t that on the promo? Instead they promo the preggers thing (gotcha!) and don’t show it during the show but only as a deleted scene as a joke. Lame ABC.
ABC is totally manipulating the edit as usual – they are trying to put Vienna in a better light and not showing us what Vienna is doing to drive the rest of the house nuts. She is only 23 and very immature. Sure she has a nice side for Jake…Ali is now getting the mean edit – when to me she just seems to being trying to be direct instead of catty behind her back.
I thought Ella was very happy to see her son (tears in her eyes) but a little dismayed too. I would be – I want to get to know this guy before my son sees me with him – now she is all – “he would make such a great dad”…way before she knows that they have something. Kiss of death, bless her heart.
Loving that Jake is calling their bluff! Elizabeth if you are going to play that many games you have to provide instructions for the players!
My favorite quote of the evening…”I’m on cloud Jake.” I completely squealed at the television.
#81 – heidi – I told my sister the same thing last night. All was missing was the multiple rows of ruffles and blow-up fins!
Wow, this whole episode was soooo classic. I loved every minute.
First, Ali- even if Vienna was talking behind other’s backs and being dramatic, Ali certainly took it to a new height to start the “Anti-Vienna” club. She then called out Michelle for not toasting to it. Come on…that’s just silly and pathetic.
Michelle- wow. That girl just wants to be married and she didn’t care whether it was Jake or Chris Harrison. I agree- she needs a therapist, stat. However, ABC- that clip was obviously dubbed. While I found it entertaining, you could at least make it a little more realisitic.
Elizabeth- she’s clueless. I think she is used to not lifting a finger to snag a man’s attention (and she’s obviously beautiful enough.) However, she had some competition and she had no idea how not to be the only pretty chick. She really crashed and burned on that game.
Vienna- I have no idea what to make out of her, since there might be something going on we aren’t seeing. However, I’ve noticed that when mean girls get together and go out head hunting, generally all it takes is a little tiny thing to blow up and feed their fire. Vienna could be doing annoying crap, but I’m not sure it deserves the hate. Granted, I would find her “Jake likes this, Jake likes that” routine a little too much, but she’s immature so I don’t think she knows when to just be classy and shut the trap.
Gia- I thought her giving Vienna a hug and admitting that she’s the only one trying to resist the mean girl take over made her endearing. Her lips are ridiculous, but it seems she has a nice heart.
Ella- Stephanie all over. She’s entered the friend zone. I think the first dates with kids will bomb every time. No one wants to make that a romantic day. The attention is usually on the kids.
Jake- WOW. I’m impressed. It’s almost like someone pulled the wool off his eyes and he’s no longer starry-eyed. He means business.
now that all the crazys are gone… is this show going to be remotely interesting?
I’m not quite Team Vienna – can’t get past that awful first impression – but I do feel a little more sympathy for her. She’s probably getting a better edit than she deserves, but she also seems to be getting worse treatment from the other bach’ettes than she deserves. They harp on her for interrupting, but they all do the same thing. Yeah, she already had a rose, so that made it a little worse. But why not just tell her you need two more minutes? Is that against the rules or something (Former Bach’ette, any guidance there?). In any event, she could have given Elizabeth an hour, and nothing would have changed. That girl was singing the same song over and over. “What? Me? A tease? Never!”. So glad she’s gone. That schtick was getting old fast.
I used to like Ali, but I’m not into the mean girls thing.
Good rittance crazy Michelle! Migawd. Desperate, much? I hope she doesn’t have a real career, because it’s going to be hard saving face after those meltdowns of hers…
And I guess I just don’t see the “good mom” thing from Ella. Agreed, good moms don’t go on this show. And my hubby called it last night – she looked more concerned about that kid ruining her hair and makeup than anything. $10 says we find out after the show that her parents or some other relative have actually been raising her kid since his infancy….
I just thought it was funny that Ella had at least 2 outfits for a trip to sea world. I always have at least one extra outfit in my backpack when I have no idea where I am being taken.
It’s all in the edit folks! They are showing what they want us to see! Anyone wondering why they haven’t shown scenes of Vienna to support the reason for the girls’ dislike. My guess is they are trying to give her a positive edit for those of us at home! By a show of hands
, how many people were team Vienna before last night. I guess only time will tell. I know many (including me) were Ali fans. After last night people seem to be jumping off the bandwagon. Like I said, it’s all in the edit!
On another note, Jake is turning out to be a great bachelor! Maybe not the most fun to watch but you can tell he is really there to find someone and isn’t into playing the stupid games. It’s about time we had a grownup bachelor!
One thing I though was weird on Jake and Vienna’s date – all I ever heard them talk about was the bungee jumping, yet at one point Jake said he had asked her a lot of hard questions and she had answered them honestly. So Vienna’s edit is that we get no info at all? I want to know what they talked about!
Wow…I’m shocked at Ali’s behavior. I REALLY liked her for the first 2 episodes and was SO disappointed to see her talk about others so meanly behind their back.
Boo.
Very impressed with how Jake handled the crazies though.
Did all of you notice how TIRED and worn-out poor Jakey-poo looked last night? I think it must be a combination of all the drama/games and the very late hours they keep on the Bachelor. Poor guy. I wanted to offer him a pillow, a blanket and an Ambien.
#89…I agree that they edit like crazy, but Ali was a jerk last night in forming the anti-Vienna club and I think that no matter how bad Vienna was, that was childish and ridiculous of her to do. So even that can’t have been edited enough to where she wasn’t actually being mean in my opinion.
I am really starting to love this season! Ali acted just like my 9 year old daughter on this episode…sulky, snooty, very bossy and sour puss face. I did not like this side of her and she is not my fav anymore. I do like Vienna and think she’s got spunk. Come on what beter cenario for Jake – if hard times fall like now they can always go to her rich Dad for a little extra help.
#44– I totally saw Ali’s nip slip!!! Couldn’t believe my eyes!
and did I spy an oddly placed tatoo on Vile Vienna’s mid-section??
After last night, the person I am beginning to like is…Jake. He told Michelle to take a hike, cut Elizabeth when he needed to, even though he was attracted to her and also cut Valisha, whose only distinction was being a single homemaker (with unmentioned kids). Ali’s stock dropped a ton. She showed no grace or maturity in the Vienna feud. She’s acting like a high schooler–too young to settle down. I think Jake will pick up on that. So who does that leave? Anybody? Corrie’s stock rose a little. I find her atttractive (my wife doesn’t) and she showed some personality at the comedy club. Also, the blonde who was nervous to perform at the club. She’s not bad looking and came across as genuine. Vienna is not nearly as bad as the other mean girls say she is. She gained some ground at the bungy jumping. She showed some pose, comforting poor Jake when she too was scared. But she talks too much, lacks interpersonal savvy and I don’t like her cross eyes. I am not checking out the spoilers so right now I think Jake picks…no one. But that could change.
#76 Marus, you said it perfect about Vienna I’m with you on that one. I am on Team Vienna as well.
