2017 Summer Movies

Summer movies are my jam. Allow me to remind you that if you are interested in reading sub-titles or discussing the nuance of a film after its final credit roll, I’m probably not the one you want beside you in a darkened theater munching on buttery popcorn. You’ll be annoyed by my constant questions. “Where’s the love story?” or “Is she going to die? Please tell me she’s not going to die!” or “Is someone going to run into a phone booth and change into spandex soon?” or “He’s so dreamy.” or “Wouldn’t this be so much more fun if it was animated?”

Remember, I’m the one who covers teeny bopper shows on The CW. It’s part of my charm.

I like to laugh. I prefer a good romance, even though Hollywood refuses to make them anymore. I enjoy watching a hero save the day. I appreciate a heart-swelling underdog story. I want to leave the movie theater feeling better than when I arrived.

Keep all of that in mind when you review the 2017 summer movies I’m looking forward to seeing in the coming months!

May 5
Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2

I adored the first installment of Guardians and it had very little to do with that seconds-long shirtless scene of Chris Pratt. I thought the script was smart, funny, and thoroughly entertaining. Volume 2 is rumored to have even more laughs than the first. I suspect Drax will have something to do with that. My hopes are very high for this movie, and I trust Baby Groot will not disappoint.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

You’re probably thinking, “Lincee, this is a war-type movie wrapped up in legendary medieval folklore. That doesn’t sound like you.” Ah, yes, I understand your concern and I appreciate it. In response, I give you Charlie Hunnam as a hero. Much like my approach to Lord of the Rings, I’m going for it.

June 2
Wonder Woman

This one worries me, because it looks a little dark. However, since I had a pair of Wonder Woman underoos, gold metal cuffs, a lasso of truth, and an invisible plane, I feel like I owe it to the old gal to see her movie. Also, Chris Pine is in it, so there’s that.

June 30
Despicable Me 3

Steve Carell is one of my favorite actors. Double Steve Carell? Yes, please!

July 14
Spider-Man: Homecoming

Other than Captain America, Spidey has always been on of my favorite superheroes. Erase all of the Tobey Maguire images you’re conjuring up in your head right now. Keep a few of the Andrew Garfield ones, because he’s adorable with Emma Stone, and go watch this movie with fresh eyes. Bonus: Robert Downey, Jr. is a co-star. Hello Tony Stark!

What do you think about the 2017 summer movies? Did I miss any you are looking forward to? (Someone is going to say Baywatch. I just know it.) Are you pumped for Guardians like I am (ONE MORE WEEK!) and do you wish Hollywood would write more epic love stories? Or am I just weird?

Can’t wait for DM3! I live for the minions and am usually the only one who stays until the very end of the credits. After Minions and the jam at the end, I couldn’t believe I was the only one who stayed. As for GotG 2–I understand there is also a new mix tape and 5, count em, 5 extras during/after the credits. DON’T LEAVE UNTIL THEY ARE DONE!

To be honest none of these sound good to me except DM3. Are there no chick flicks coming out this Summer?

Totally with you there, Babs. DM3 is the only one I would entertain watching.
