Bachelorette Emily – Week 2

“It’s time to play the music.
It’s time to light the lights.
Let’s hope the Muppets help
A very boring show tonight.”

Because I’m a normal red-blooded human being, I adore Jim Henson’s beloved Muppets. Had it not been for a few entertaining moments with Kermit and Miss Piggy, last night’s episode would have been an even bigger snooze fest. I took the liberty of listing a few ways ABC producers have chosen to torture this season’s viewing audience over at my Huffington Post recap. Feel free to CLICK HERE and familiarize yourself before checking back later for the actual post.

Wish me luck. I’m going to need it.

Miss Piggy wore her Michael Costello, Project Runway dress!

I understand the reason for it but unpacking groceries and cooking making. I am so so sure Ryan was pumped about that. Liar! Then the 7 page letter. Can you say trying too hard?
Joe had a much better date, I think. However, I was too busy laughing and trying to figure out how Joe looks even remotely like Matthew Mcaughney that I couldn’t tell for sure.
I felt bad for Charlie at first with the whole stand-up thing but then he was being a jerk later. Charlie, you are disappointing me.
Lastly, although I am not a fan of Kalon, Doug was a little harsh on him. Back off buddy! What he said didn’t mean to come across the way you took it.

I love this season. We have gotten so use to the ridiculousness of this show that now we are ‘bored’ with what I hope is a sweet love story, Go Em!

Ok, I love the Muppets…but REALLY? I was wondering last night if I was watching the dating/train wreck show that is known to us as The Bachelorette OR if I was watching a family friendly show with the Muppets and that maybe I should wake my kids up to watch! LOL!
That was just all cheesy and awkward and boring!
But again – I love the Muppets…just maybe not on my “trash TV shows”.
And, while I am not a fan of Kalon either, I think Doug and the rest of the dudes were just a little too harsh on him. He used the wrong choice of words, he did not intend for his comment to come across that way. Those boys all needed to back off a bit!
Oh and yeah!! Joe definitely looks like Dawson but I soooo see Matthew Mcaughney in him as well! LOL!
What a snooze fest last night! When do we get to the episode where Emily drops an F-bomb?

I thought the Muppets were the most entertaining part of last night’s show. They were really comical. I love the old guy’s jokes sitting next to our beloved host. What’s that muppet’s name, Statler? Anyways, that was cute.

Is it my imagination or did Emily get a major boob job? I can’t help but think it’s fitting that Dolly Parton is going to guest starring on next week’s episode.

I’ve been following Bach/Bach’ette on IHGB for several years now, and also following OHCH’s blog, and this is the first time that there have ever seen so unbelievably few comments posted to those blogs. I’m not sure what it was about last night’s episode (maybe causes it was the Muppets, or maybe because Emily is boring, or there’s no chemistry with any of the guys), but folks just don’t have much to say!

would someone give me the name of the band that is “Emily’s favorite” and played last night?

I at first was horrified that they picked Emily for the Bach’ette as I thought she would be incredibly boring. I’m so far impressed actually. I didn’t find the episode that boring and for the first time I thought “aww… I wonder if this change from luxurious dates actually does produce a true love connection.” I have only looked to this show as pure entertainment and scoffed that anyone would think it would truly lead to a substantial relationship. I actually like the way Emily is going about it.

I will say though- she dismissed Joe to soon. You don’t always feel butterflies and a strong connection at first. It took me awhile to warm up to my husband… you never know!

Ryan’s novel was ridiculous! I felt bad that Emily had to sit there and read it outloud. Why write a huge letter if the person has to read it right there? Why not just SAY what you wrote?!

Long-time viewer, long-time IHGB reader, some times poster. Haven’t posted on here in awhile, but Good Lord! How dull, dull, dull this season is starting out! I couldn’t even finish the show! And, it irritates me how Emily is shopping for a father before shopping for a lover and friend. yes, i know he has to be a good father figure, but let him BE HIMSELF first before he has to start proving he’s Mr. Mom and the answer to Little Ricky’s Daddy prayers!

Is that mean? Maybe so! But I watch this show for the Erica Roses and the douchey Jake Pavelkas! I have enough boring, blah dates in my own life!

All I could think last night during the Muppets when the guys were acting all soft and touched was of the phrase from Jerry Macguire, “shoplifting the pootie.” Bach’s better learn that skill to stay in the game!

I love the IHGB reader who posted last week about Emily, “She’s not the first single mom, and she won’t be the last.” These guys act like she’s the Virgin Mary of single moms! Chick doesn’t even work! No wonder she’s fine with having dates involving cooking and soccer practice–she has PLENTY of “me time” as it is!

This season is not working for me. they better ramp up the adult content, or I’m out.

Gosh, Lincie, good luck finding the funny in this PBS-approved episode.

@ Rachel – I agree! Everyone is talking about what a snoozefest this season is, but I’m also enjoying it so far. Emily is pleasantly surprising me, and is showing spunk and emotional maturity. Looking forward to what the rest of this season will bring…it would be nice if an actual connection is finally made!

I totally agree as well, I’m enjoying this season so far. It seems like in past seasons, the conversations we get to see consist mainly of “you’re an amazing/awesome person” or “wow, you want to be married and happy, we have so much in common – that’s amazing/awsome.” I feel like Emily is asking questions she really wants answered. It’s also interesting, because ALL of the guys are working so hard to impress her.

First time poster here, came by way of Guy in Austin (who I found during the Brad season). Have only ever followed a handful of B seasons, first Bachelorette ever now because I liked Emily so much, was rooting for her during her last time on the show. Anyway I wanted to comment that I think she let Joe go because she has a strong idea for the next five years (babies on the mind!) and he sounds much more like he wants to wing it for quite some time. I think it was a good move, just not the same goals.

While this week’s episode was epically boring, I can not wait for next week! For whatever reason, I ADORE Arie. Just seeing the 10 second clip of their one-on-one date next week made me swoon. I have never had a bigger crush on a contestant than I do on Arie. I hope he doesn’t disappoint!

This whole episode could have been condensed into about half the time it took. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Muppets, but that whole Muppets segment lasted WAAAAY too long. And the letter? Good lord. 15 pages. Front and back! (Friends reference). That seemed so 8th grade to me. I agree with Rachel above – instead of writing it and having her read it aloud (awkward!), just say how you’re feeling.

I actually liked that they did normal things on Ryan’s date, and hope they do more of that through this season. I think part of the reason none of the relationships ever work is because they set these fantasy dates up (not to be confused with the fantasy suite), where there’s no way you couldn’t fall in love, and that just doesn’t translate to real life. The real test is whether you can still find things to talk about and enjoy each others’ company while doing everyday things like baking cookies. That said, Ryan seems really disingenuous to me. Something abut him just seems really fake and “off.”

I agree with Katie above – I have a major crush on Arie too! I think he may go all the way, or they may be primping him for next bachelor.
