IHGB Podcast #135: Football in Pop Culture

’Tis the seasons my friends!

No, I’m not talking about Thanksgiving turkey or yuletide cheer. I’m talking about autumn and all of its amenities.

For some of you, it’s the invasion of pumpkin-spice infused things, including but not limited to: coffee, muffins, for some reason Oreos, hand sanitizers, candles, and Burt’s Bees chapstick.

For others, like me, autumn means we can break out the orange tea towels, scatter some leaves around decorative gourds, and finally fill the glass bowl on the coffee table with candy corn.

It also means that football season is here.

In this episode, Some Guy in Austin and I discuss football in pop culture. (You’ll understand why he and I are friends we you hear our first two topics.)

Between movies and a few TV episodes, we had a ton from which to choose. Although it was hard picking favorites, I’m sure you already know one of my guesses.

I’ll give you two hints. The first is Tim and the second is Riggins.

Clear eyes, y’all.

So what is the app that lets you know about the Hallmark Christmas movies?

Binging the first and last seasons of FNL every August has become a tradition around our house. It’s a mid-year boost that keeps me content while waiting for Hallmark Christmas movie season.

I have loved Kyle Chandler since Heaven and Hell, the third miniseries in the North and South trilogy. (For the record, first two minis were amazing, sadly H&H was crap, but KC was swoonworthy, nonetheless.) I was DEVASTATED by his portrayal of Buddy in Pure Country, but Coach Eric Taylor made all right with my world again.

Please don’t tease a Pure Country deep dive! No other pod could do it the reverent justice you would. Yes, the acting was terrible, but do we care?!? Not one wit! Still so many great moments that require your reflection and commentary.

Wholeheartedly agree with your list of football movies with one addition – The Junction Boys. We watch it every year during the week of the A&M-Alabama game.

Adding Little Giants to the football list. Such a good underdog story! Loved this episode!
