IHGB #181: The 2020 Emmys
Hello everyone!
We have a special treat for you today. I’m joined by not one but TWO friends this week and let me tell you, I hope you have as much fun as I did recording this episode.
You know Lara and Todd by now, I’m sure. The three of us got together to discuss the Emmys. Well, Todd and Lara talk about the Emmys. I let them debate over which show is darker: Succession or Ozark.
In short, I have nothing to contribute to the conversation when it comes to dramas because I don’t watch any of the shows.
But I did contribute to the Schitt’s Creek conversation, which I’m happy to report swept all the comedy categories thanks to an incredible ensemble, Moira’s wigs, a Tina Turner classic, and A Little Bit Alexis.
Grab your favorite flavor of Herb Ertlinger fruit wine, get comfy and prepare to hear me giggle about for about half an hour.
EPISODE NOTES:
Here is a list of all the Emmy nominations and winners, besides the Schitt’s Creek cast.
Lara and I did a podcast entirely on Schitt’s Creek. You can listen HERE.
Interested in checking out Snow’s BBQ? We’ll meet you there…
Instead of dark shows, I prefer something lighter. And Australian. I’m watching Wonderland!

You should watch, “Dead to me,” it is great and has James Marsden in it!!!!
Dead to me, lots of twists and turns.
Hulu, for Little Fires….
I have a long commute and love listening to your podcasts as we have very similar tastes. I took your advice and watched Schitt’s Creek (loved it!) so here are my binge recommendations (if you haven’t already seen them).
1) Psych (Amazon Prime or Peacock)
A man opens a psychic detective agency to explain how he solves crimes with his hyper-observation. This is a comedy / mystery series with a great cast. I’ve loved Dule Hill since Holes, and Timothy Omundson is so good! The key is the many 80s references and cameos. My favorite guest star is Cary Elwes (hello, The Princess Bride is a great movie, and if you love it, watch Stardust too).
2) The Good Place (Nextflix)
It stars Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. No more needs to be said.
3) Lucifer (Netflix)
I felt strange starting to watch this as I was brought up as a good Catholic girl, but this is soooo good! Obviously, it’s about the devil; he takes a break and works with a detective solving crimes because the murderer needs to be punished. Great take, great music – the opening scene of season 4 is brilliant!!! And I would pay to watch Tom Ellis read the phone book (if such things still existed).
As you’ve said, sometimes you have to give things a couple of episodes to get into a groove.
