I Hate Green Beans Podcast 22: I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool

So many of us love country music, but Some Guy in Austin and I break down the difference between “real” country music and “pop” country music. In short, you won’t find any Affliction shirts or jeans with rhinestones on the butt in this podcast.

We do discuss Rocky Mountain jeans which came in all the colors of the rainbow.

A country music legendary guitar player by the name of Redd Volkaert.

From best moment EVER from the CMA Awards, I give you two of my loves: Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake!

Here’s the one where Carrie Underwood sings her guts out at the Grand Ole Opry.

And my new favorite song from Miranda where she left it all on the stage in a fabulous dress at the ACM Awards.

Enjoy the podcast. I look forward to seeing you in my inbox when you write me about all the music artists we forgot who are awesome in your book!

Agree on everything except Miranda. Love you and SGIA together. Best podcasts. I grew up in Alabama (and I am the same age as you) and I had never heard of Rocky Mountain Jeans. I had to google it.

I learned quite a bit from this podcast. The whole discussion on jeans was (I am ashamed to admit) news to me. I also learned that George Strait doesn’t write his own music. But this episode did inspire me to listen to a little Keith Whitley today.

Ha, Todd I thought it was just me. RIP Keith Whitley. Incidentally I just saw Sammy Kershaw in concert and was just thinking about ole Lorrie.

Ok, I have no idea how I missed this podcast but it was hands down my favorite of the bunch. I want Lincee & SGIA to know a few things. 1) You just cost me a ton of money. iTunes thanks you 2) I cried a real tear when Young Love started playing. How did The Judds drop out of my life? They are back, not problem. 3) I screamed “Fancy” in my car. 4) I was HORRIFIED that George Strait didn’t make the cut, I kept waiting for it but once I heard the explanation I respected the decision. I know SGIA will be relieved now that I’ve blessed his list. This was so fun, thanks for doing it.

Ok, and now that I’ve listened to a bunch of The Judds I have to say I remember my Mama getting so mad at Naomi. She’d say “The daughter does all the work and that mama just stomps around.” Hilarious. Thanks for helping me dig up that memory.
