I Hate Green Beans Podcast 25: Shag

I’m guessing many of you have never even heard of the movie Shag. I’m sad for you and excited for me that I get to change that! My friend Stephanie and I discuss this wonderful little film in GREAT DETAIL (read: spoilers included) and we are super pumped to share our enthusiasm with you!

Please ignore my weird, scratchy voice and instead bask in the glory of a darling coming-of-age story about four friends who spend a week in Myrtle Beach in 1963.

Once we convince you to watch, you can use this Amazon link to buy Shag at your earliest convenience! I hope you love it as much as we do!

Enjoy!

LOL. I love your enthusiasm about Shag!! I actually DO know this movie, I think you and I must have been one of the few people who actually paid to see it in the theatre when it was released. Unfortunately, I hated that movie. I would literally list it as one of the worst films I have ever seen. However, I love your taste and you are usually spot on about everything else we mutually enjoy. Therefore, I will be giving Shag another chance, and hopefully I will find some of your exuberance the second time around!!!

I actually saw this film in my 8th grade English class right before school let out for summer! It was my teacher’s favorite movie – LOL. Good ol Marshall…

As a South Carolinian, this movie is a staple. The Shag is the state dance, after all. I’m so glad to know it is appreciated elsewhere! Loved the Podcast!

When I saw you did a podcast devoted to my ALL TIME favorite movie, SHAG….I was beside myself! I waited (and waited, and waited) until the perfect moment to listen, and that finally came yesterday, as I folded about 7 baskets of laundry!

Back in 1987 I had the pleasure of working at a movie theater, so whenever I had a break, I’d grab my free popcorn and soda and go sit in the theater to watch this movie. I. Loved. It.
I had it on VHS, then my husband bought me the DVD when our VHS player died. Then, not knowing I already had it, my brother bought me ANOTHER one for Christmas one year, so I now have TWO! 🙂

The music….the dancing….this movie even inspired my husband and I to take Shag (dancing–not Austin Powers Shag) lessons prior to our wedding. And did they pay off…..we can still hold hands, step back on one foot, and count off, “one & two, three & four, five, six….” Wait…that’s all we could really ever do….but it was FUN!
We drove through Myrtle Beach one year and all I could do was envision the sets from the movie.

And your podcast was hilarious! Your voice intonations of the characters were spot on! HAHAHA!
“I’ve got news….you’re gonna lose.”
“I’m not goin’ parkin’ with you, Buzz Ravenel.”
So many……I could quote the whole movie!
And the fishing-kiss scene……”Oo Ah” is right!!!

I loved everything about this movie. The two DVDs have been buried in my cabinet for 20 years, and listening to your podcast reminded me how much I need this movie in my life again! 🙂
Thanks so much for this! 🙂
