IHGB Podcast #94: Oscar Recap

I’ve got a bonus episode here for you and it’s all about THE OSCARS!

Who won?
Who deserved to win?
Which nominees are worth watching?

Of course I don’t know the answers to any of these questions because out of the big categories (actor/actress/director/picture) of the winners I saw a grand total of ZERO.

I can tell you all about A Star is Born, Black Panther, and Mary Poppins Returns.

I didn’t even know there was a movie called The Wife. (I’m sorry Glen Close!) But I do have friends who are more refined than I am and Todd is here to tell you what to see and what to skip.

I’ll tell you who wore it best. Look no further than Captain America Chris Evans. Even though his tux was turquoise velvet, I’ll allow it

Because it matched his eyes perfectly. That’s talent.

My two cents: I thought they did well with no host, but I really think one is needed. The entertainment value for me just wasn’t there this year. I don’t know if it was all about the lack of continuity and humor that a host brings, or if it had something to do with so many up-and-comer stars there and not too many really big veteran stars. I know Glenn Close, Bradley Cooper, and Lady Gaga are huge, but I miss the days of Jack Nicholson sitting in the front row with big stars all around. A sprinkling of huge stars presented awards – Barbra Streisand and Julia Roberts looked great and Angela Bassett was stunning, but other than that, the show felt meh. Of the Best Picture movies, I only saw Black Panther so probably why I didn’t recognize many of the actors up for awards. I’d give this year’s Oscar’s a C letter grade.
