Beaner Book List – Volume 2

FullSizeRender

Attention avid book readers: It’s been TWO YEARS since we updated the inaugural Beaner Book List. It took me that long to read all of your phenomenal suggestions!

Okay, maybe I didn’t read ALL of them, but someone on the book list did introduce me to a little series known as “Outlander” and my beloved Jamie Fraser.

I will never be the same. This list has incredible potential. Do not take its power lightly.

Take a moment to think about books that have impacted you in the last few years. We have a variety of interests here at IHGB, so no genre should be neglected. I say this as a person who has read every popular YA novel in the last decade. If it’s a love story or it’s about pop culture, I will devour it. With that said, please include your murder mysteries, sci-fi thrillers or anything else that sticks to your ribs.

I will compile the list in both author and title formats. Then I’ll share our favorites in a post, which I’ll link on the side bar.

I am super excited to see what y’all have been reading lately. My nightstand is awfully bare! I’m willing to fix that problem, if you’re willing to help me!

I just finished As You Wish by Cary Elwes (Westley). Behind the scenes memoir of filming The Princess Bride with tons of insights from all the actors. LOVED IT! Quick, fun, and a very easy read!

I so agree with The Selection Series!! I loved all three books! The Siren by Kiera Cass is also great. Another all-consuming series: The Luxe books by Anna Godberson. Lots of historical detail with delightful intrigue and dialogue.

What Alice Forgot and Big Little Lies — both by Liane Moriarty. Her others are great too, but these are my favorites of hers. Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman have optioned Big Little Lies and plan on starring in it.

I tend to read Authors, not just books, so…

Anything by L.M. Montgomery. Good Lord, the word pictures she writes are amazing.

Gene Stratton-Porter’s books. All of them. Really. But start with Laddie – A true blue tale. O.M.Gee so good.

And seriously folks. Trust me on this one.

The J.D. Robb (Also known as Nora Roberts) “In Death” Books. ALLLLLL of them. Start with #1 “Naked in Death” and keep going.

The first thing that came to my mind were L.M. Montgomery and Gene Stratton-Porter! I don’t read a lot of comtemporary fiction but these 2 authors are timeless! GSP’s The Harvester, Freckles, The Magic Garden, and The Keeper of the Bees along with Laddie… are all stunning, thought provoking books that make you want to be a better person … I don’t exactly know how to say it but they are amazing!

I recently finished Sean Lowe’s book “For The Right Reasons”. While it certainly wasn’t the most well written book I’ve ever read or the most Earth shattering read, it was an interesting insight into the back story of the show and a great testimony to his faith. I enjoyed it and read it quickly. Ims ure some of your readers might as well. Would be a super easy vaca or pool read for the summer! 🙂

I’m an avid reader, here’s some of my faves:

The Alienist by Caleb Carr (history, murder, forensics – greatness!!!)

The Spenser novels by Robert B Parker (yes same as the tv show but outstanding writing – main character is such a smart ass – delightful and thoughtful reading). He also wrote the Jesse Stone series (made into the tv movies with my crush Tom Selleck)

Anything by Malcom Gladwell

The Four Agreements (great principles to live by)

The Rosie Project novel (dating from the viewpoint of someone with Asperger’s – very funny)

Where’d you go Bernadette (hilarious social commentary)

So many more but that’s a start 🙂
