Fall TV 2017
Raise your hand if you are p-u-m-p-e-d that the fall TV lineup is finally here! I know I am. I did an entire podcast about this exciting time of the year. I’ve already cleaned out my DVR from superfluous nonsense clogging up precious space and I double checked that show times don’t overlap on Monday nights. Why network executives insist on cramming as much good television into that one day is a mystery to me. Spread it out for goodness sakes!
Once again, I’ve compiled a list of shows (both old and new) that I’m excited about watching this fall TV season. You have my full permission to make fun of whatever show airs on the CW. I don’t mind. I stand behind my choices. And Oliver Queen.
SUNDAY
Network: Staz
Show: Outlander
Defense: The third season of Outlander debuted three weeks ago, and just as Lara and I predicted on the podcast, it’s taking forever for Jamie and Clair to reunite in the 1700s. I will accept the slow burn for one more episode, simply because I have Jamie’s chin dimple to keep me satisfied until then.
Hot Guy Alert: See for yourself:
Network: PBS
Show: Poldark
Defense: Are you watching this show? It’s also in season 3 and I owe all the credit to my friend Ranelle for introducing me to Ross Poldark. I’ll admit that I’m a little ambivalent with the storyline right now because are leading couple is having some marital issues, thanks to Poldark’s ridiculous choices. But I will give it a go, simply because I have Ross’ manly face scar to keep me satisfied until then.
Hot Guy Alert: See for yourself…
Network: FOX
Show: Ghosted
Defense: I love a sitcom, but this premise makes me a little nervous. I want it to be funny soooooo bad, but I just don’t see how it can be. With that said, I will always get behind former Parks and Recreation/The Office cast members.
Hot Guys Alert: Adam Scott and Craig Robinson
MONDAY
Network: ABC
Show: Dancing with the Stars
Defense: Dancing + My favorite D-List stars and Olympic medalists cha-cha-ing around a ballroom = Sign me up.
Hot Guy Alert: Call me Val!
Network: CBS
Show: The Big Bang Theory
Defense: Some people think that an eleventh season of The Big Bang Theory is unnecessary and this show should be put out to pasture. I think these people do not understand nerd culture. Long live The Shamy.
Hot Nerdy Guy Alert: I have soft spot for Raj.
Network: CBS
Show: Young Sheldon (new)
Defense: I love old Sheldon, so who’s to say I won’t love young Sheldon? This is definitely an interesting concept and with ten seasons of BBT under my belt, I think I’ll probably get more jokes than others. I have high hopes.
Cute Boy Alert: How cute is young Sheldon!?
Network: NBC
Show: The Brave (new)
Defense: I’ll admit that there are a ton of military/special unit/cop shows out there, but this one caught my eye. Perhaps it was the patriotism that tugged at my heart? And maybe the hot guy. Or should I say hot guys?
Hot Guys Alert: Demetrius Grosse, Noah Mills, Had Tabbal, Michael Love Toliver, Mike Vogel — take your pick
TUESDAY
Network: NBC
Show: This Is Us
Defense: I want to be a Pearson. I believe it’s the best drama on television right now.
Adorable Family Alert: The entire Pearson family, both young and old and extended.
WEDNESDAY
Network: ABC
Show: The Goldbergs
Defense: This show speaks to my nostalgic soul. I absolutely adore every single episode and feel extremely old when I watch my childhood play out before me. In a good way, of course.
Hot Gal Alert: Bev in her jazzercise outfits, for sure. Her shoulder pads come in a close second.
Network: The CW
Show: Dynasty (new)
Defense: This is a no-brainer. I watched the old one in the 80s with my mom. Krystle Carrington and Alexis Colby were THE BEST in the worst ways. I have zero expectations for this remake, but simply can’t skip it due to nostalgia. Who’s with me?
Hot Cast Alert: I think you have to be genetically perfect to even be considered for a role on this show.
THURSDAY
Network: ABC
Show: Grey’s Anatomy
Defense: Well, I drank the Kool-Aid ten years ago, put it down because the show made me sad, and now I’ve picked up again. I blame my roommate Lara. Fun fact: it only took me one episode to catch up on what I missed the last four seasons! (Spoiler: That’s because everyone dies.)
Hot Guy Alert: I have loved Karev from this moment…
Network: NBC
Show: Will & Grace (new)
Defense: I have all the hope in the world for this to be as fun and charming as it was back in the early 90s. Fingers crossed!
Hot Ensemble Alert: These jokers refuse to age.
Network: The CW
Show: Arrow
Defense: Just watch this video.
Hot Guy Alert: I LOVE YOU OLIVER.
FRIDAY
Network: The CW
Show: Jane the Virgin
Defense: This is the best show that no one is watching. Let’s fix that.
Hot Guy Alert: Rafael is a near perfect specimen of a human being.

The Good doctor, Arrow, Supergirl, (had to that Flash and DC legends of Tomorrow) Grey’s Anatomy, That’s just from this list. I need to find out how to watch Poldark it’s not on Nextflix and i lost interest in This is Us but need to rewatch. It’s not on Nextflix either so not quite sure how. Probably Stranger Things, i think I have watched a few episodes.
Poldark Season 1 & 2 are included in Amazon Prime streaming if you have that. (I just went and looked for myself. thank you JustWatch ap)
Poldark is on PBS if you have regular channels thru cable or antenna. Worth the effort! Our local library (suburbs of Kansas City) has seasons 1 and 2 on DVD also.
This show just ended it’s Season 4 but you HAVE to watch Younger. It is definitely the best show that no one is watching. You would LOVE it!!
OMG! Agreed! I LOVE YOUNGER!
YES! Younger is fabulous!
Younger is fantastic! Everyone I’ve recommended it to has loved it!
Love Love Love Younger!
Thanks for mentioning Younger. I have been binge watching it since I read this comment (first 3 seasons are on Hulu).
Yes to Stranger Things (it is a bit creepy but so good). I listened to the podcast and was in my car screaming “Girl, NO” when you were talking about Walking Dead. It’s nothing like Love Actually , Andrew Lincoln aside. I know you know this but I was laughing at you and Lara. You wouldn’t like it at all (I love it though. Well, I love/hate it always).
I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I just wanted to concur that YES, everyone should be watching Jane the Virgin. And to encourage you to watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Though I think you should start at the beginning (not that it has deeply complex storylines that you won’t get if you start in the current season, I just have the firm belief that shows are best in their first 3 seasons, and then you just keep watching because seeing the characters is like running into old friends). Some shows I find I have trouble liking the characters (the Mindy Project. The characters I liked seemed to disappear), but almost the entire cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine has endeared itself to me.
Under the “Should I Watch These Shows” category, YES you should ABSOLUTELY watch B99, Speechless, Blackish, and Superstore (especially if you’ve worked retail). I also am a huge fan of Empire, though so much has happened you really have to start at the beginning, ha!
I cannot wait for the return of HTGAWM, Chicago PD (HOT guys alert) & Fire and The Blacklist.
Yes to watching all these shows! All three have a great cast and excellent writing. Stranger Things is amazing, just don’t watch it alone.
Yes to Brooklyn Nine Nine! It’s similar to Parks & Reccreation.
We would have a hard time watching TV together….Amazing Race, This is US, The Good Doctor (still mad that they cancelled Pure Genius), all the cooking shows – Top Chef, Master Chef, Chopped, The Great Foos Truck Race, Worst Cooks, Guys Grocery Games, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Food Network Star, all the Chicago shows – med, PD and Fire, Blue Bloods, Scorpion, Code Black. The Night Shift just ended and won’t be back until summer (rats).
Of the should you watch list…Stranger Things is the only one I’d recommend.
I need to know your thoughts on Kevin Can Wait. I’ve only watched the first 5 minutes that recorded after Young Sheldon (awesome, btw), but I was blown away, and had to immediately Google what was happening! It makes me sad. 🙁
YES to Superstore! First two seasons were incredibly funny and charming. It’s just light-hearted and cutesy-funny. All of the actors are great in their roles, and I highly recommend it!
Oh, you must add in American Housewife! If you like the Goldbergs you will like this too! It’s the same kind of humour.
Brooklyn 99 is a good one. It felt a little forced last season but I’m still giving it a try.
Superstore is SO GREAT! I love it and I think everyone should watch it. It’s like the office in a Wal-mart type setting. There’s also a hot guy alert (Ben Feldman) and a Jim/Pam type of romance going on that was a cliffhanger from last season. I’m so excited!!
Jane the Virgin is outstanding! I love speechless and black-ish … they are musts!
Stranger things!!! Love all the 80s nostalgia.
