I Hate Green Beans Podcast 7: It’s Britney Spears, Y’all!

This week my friend Stephanie and I discuss the one and only Britney Spears. When I mention her name, what image comes to mind? Is it an innocent school girl with pigtails? Or is it images of a shaven head? Whatever the case may be, Stephanie and I discuss this musical icon’s place in pop culture history.

And yes, we do breakdown the wonder that is Crossroads.

Here are a few handy links related to the topics we cover:

Young Stephanie L-O-V-E-D Britney’s “Sometimes” video and can describe quite literally everything that is going on in the choreography. As a podcaster, I truly appreciate her vivid word play.

We also talked about her infamous flesh bodysuit and albino python at the MTV video music awards.

Do you remember her “For Those Who Think Young” Pepsi commercial? I loved it at the time, but it didn’t convince me to buy Pepsi. I’m a loyal Pepper.

Like Steph mentions, the video is grainy, but if you want to watch Crossroads on YouTube, your wish is our command!

Who could forget JT’s “Cry Me a River” video with a Britney Spears lookalike?

Stephanie would be so mad at me if I didn’t include a link to her crush Anson Mount, who managed to get a job after his Crossroads fame!

Last but not least, here’s a link to the IHGB podcast or one to iTunes if you’re interested in subscribing.

Enjoy the show!

I can’t wait to listen to this! Crossroads is one of my all time favorite “bad” movies. It’s really up there with From Justin to Kelly, The Fast and the Furious, and Co-Ed Call girl. She’s not a girl, but not yet a woman. Charlene Frazier was her mom that abandoned her and apparantly thought that because she lived in Arizona, she had to wear safari-esque outfits. And I can’t even get started on the gift that is Anson Mount.

Also, I can’t believe that I got Charlene Frazier mixed up with Samantha Jones! Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrell) was the mom not Jean Smart. Party Foul!

Y’all really pissed me with the shade. Britney is an amazing singer, not only is she unique but her range and variety is huge. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Furthermore, she is a great writer and you are missing out on the best of her catalogue by not listening to In the Zone, Blackout, Circus, Femme Fatale, and Glory. I won’t say Britney Jean is one of her better albums, but Work Bitch is undeniably a gem. And Blackout is on RollingStone’s list of greatest albums of all time. Where were you in 2011 that you never heard Till the World Ends? Hold it Against Me is also credited as being the first pop song to include dubstep. I don’t think you should dedicate a podcast to someone like Britney who is so beloved and not even do proper research. It’s so easy to pick on Britney because she is sweet. Honestly I think it is just ignorant to not pay her respect for all that she has accomplished and been through. Britney is a celebrated entertain who is entirely underrated because too many people take her for granted. Neither of you have any reason to be talking about her when you know so little besides the basic timeline of her career.

While they didn’t list what you listed in your catalogue, I didn’t thInk they were picking on her at all. Far from it, I got the impression they like and respect Brittany, but their major experiences with her were in a different decade.
